We are looking for a bird for our family. It's very much like we are pregnant and waiting for the day the new addition comes to the family!
I was contacted by my local pet store owner this morning, and am hopefully going to meet a BLUE AND GOLD macaw.
The people that own him work 14 hour days in the bush, and the kids have all grown up and moved out. They just want him to go to a loving home.
It turned out it's an old friend of my fiancé. We are now just waiting to hear back from the people. They get home at 6, I get off work at 7, so I'm hoping we can go after I'm off work to meet the Mac.
This is my dream bird.
I am constantly reading about them. I have tried talking to everyone I meet that has them. I still really want a zon, too ;) but a flock is better, right?!?
I'm so excited while I wait to hear word from my fiancé.
I had to explode somewhere. Lol
He comes with everything. They say he's not aggressive. He grew up with children. He's 14 years old.
I am bubbling. Bubbling!
** pinches myself ** wait I was expecting that! maybe I'm still dreaming! can someone else pinch me?

:D Oh this is AWESOME!!! Now I'm excited WITH you!!! I can pinch you all right, but I'll guarantee you I'll leave a bruise because you are NOT dreaming this. ;)

I SO hope this works out for all of you!!!! :)

hahaha *pinch* congrats!!! B&G are amazing birds!!! I'd hold off on getting another bird until your guy has a couple months to settle in. Be sure to give lots of foraging and wood destroying opportunities to your Mac or he will get even more mischecious and eat your furniture or walls...

So exciting! I know you have been looking for the right bird for awhile now, and it sounds like this was meant to be:) Good luck and I hope you hear something soon!!!

What a happy coincidence that you know the people somewhat . I hope everything works out and he comes home with you :)

sure your excited enough???,,,,your enthusiasm is so contagious!!!!

I so hope it works out for you!!

Good luck! Wow that's so exciting!! I had a dream this morning that I got given two blue and golds! Hehe I woke up going awwww I want one =( haha

My fiancé just gor off the phone with them. There was another lady supposed to com get him. When they found out Gareth and I were interested they called the other lady and cancelled.
HE IS OURS!!!
We go pick him up tomorrow after I get off work.
What do I need for beans to make chop? It's the only thing I can think of that I don't have!!

just soak overnight and cook them and they are safe or you can sprout some wich is a bit more complicated but still relatively easy. And YAY CONGRATS!!!! I can't wait to see pics!!!

So excited for you that it worked out! I can't wait to see pictures:)
I used a 15 bean soup mix for mine. I soaked it overnight then cooked for 3 hours (probably overcooked but was a little nervous)

Congrats!!!! Glad everything worked out. It worked out in your favor since your fiance knows them. Good luck!!! :)

I've looked and looks and looked and can't find....

When do they go through puberty? I know early spring is breeding season.... How long does it last?

His name is Ricco, and is very playful. I'm very excited. 19 hours until I head there ( about a 40 minute drive from my work)
So I guess more like 20 hours.

Seems so long.

WOOT WOOT WOOT!!!

I am SO happy for you!! YAY!!!!

Did you get any sleep last night? How many hours are left until you bring YOUR Ricco home??? :D

Macaws "can" breed year round, so he may not necessarily turn hormonal then. It lasts about 6-8 weeks. Then again, some snap out of it earlier, some may not even show many symptoms. :)

This will be a fantastic, adventurous, and fun journey, NO doubt in my mind!! :D

I have realized taking him home will be exciting for us, and this is going to be a heart breaking day for him.
I am planning on having warm oatmeal on a spoon every night with him... But beyond that... How do I make this easier on him

Time and patience....patience and time. :)

Yes, there will be an adjustment period, perhaps even a honeymoon period, only time will tell.

Sharing oatmeal and other foods is a fantastic idea!! :D
