I currently have a Goffin Cockatoo, believed to be female… is 22 yrs old and has been owned by me. Here name is Kahlua. She does talk, dances to music and loves head scratches.

I am looking to re-home my Goffin. Due to major health issues I can no longer provide the care she deserves. With that being said, here’s alittle about her. Im not sure if my Goffin is male or female but the breeder and I both believe she’s a female. I named her Kahlua. I’ve had her since she weaned …. About 3 months. While she was weaning I visited her everyday and even got to feed her. She does talk, but not as much as I’d hoped for. She loves music and will do her cockatoo strut to Another on Bites the Dust. She is in good health and feather. She has been the only bird for her 22 yrs of life. She eats seed and pellets ( Nut Blend ). She does love the outdoors…. ( with clipped wings ). I habe 2 cages but will only let the smaller 2ft x 2ft go for free with her. The other cage is a Macaw sized cage which I will ask a fee for if you want it as well. I will send all her toys and the smaller manzanita perches. You will need to be able to pick her up, but I could possibly meet you part way. i do live in Western Wisconsin and in the Spring 2025 I will make a drive down to Northern Alabama, so it is possible to deliver her along the route. With all that being said, since there will be no fee for her and the smaller cage…. i will be very selective and most likely ask the tough questions. So, for those of you looking for a “Free” bird because you can’t afford one or don’t want to pay for one I wont be easy on you. Owning a parrot and especially a Cockatoo is like having a small child…. They want and crave attention. Do your homework please. Kahlua does say her name as “Lua” Her speech is birdy but clear unless she is doing her “devil bird” then its pretty funny. She has clean language and prefers females but my boyfriend is able to give her scratches. I would prefer serious inquires only, as I have limited time to field out someone who isnt serious. Since I live in Wisconsin, and winter if fast approaching I will not be traveling during this time… that will be your responsibility. If you are interested in the Macaw cage that will also be a you travel to pick it up…it can be broken down but I wouldnt advise it…. It is Cockatoo proof. The Macaw cage is charcoal grey and in very good condition. Her smaller cage is alittle older but in fair shape.

What a beautiful cockatoo ❤️❤️

Have you tried to contact any of your local shelters to see if they can help you find your cockatoo a home?

Also make sure to be careful of bird flippers. These are people who will take your parrot, and sell it just to make $$$. Your parrot will go home to home, and it wouldn’t be an ideal situation.

Thanks, I really do want her to go to a bird lover home. She deserves someone who will love her like I have. It’s not an easy decision for me…. Im not sure about the shelters but I have reached out to my Vet for assistance but this time of the year is difficult because the winters hear can be brutal and most people dont get birds in the winter. I’m not in a rush to get rid of her, so I have time to find the best home for her. She’s always been healthy and for that Im thankful.

I’m in Minnesota, and I know of a few shelters that you can contact. I think it may be against policy of this forum to list them though as it could be considered advertising. Not sure 🤔 @saxguy64 @LaManuka @wrench13 am I able to list some shelters for this lady to contact?

If you google parrot rescues in Wisconsin, Iowa, or Minnesota it will bring you to websites of shelters. Call the phone numbers… if no one answers try to send a text or email. At times shelters aren’t going to hear their phones due to the parrot screams in the background. I miss phone calls all the time for the same purpose.

A list of rescue centres was started by the mod team a little while ago, you can find them in the link below. Even if none of these is in your particular location, it's worth contacting one close by as they may know of someone near you who can help, or someone who may even be looking to adopt :)

She sounds so sweet and I would be interested in adopting her if you feel she would be ok with children in the home. I understand if she isn't friendly with them but I mean just tolerating the noises of children. I never have had a goffin always wanted one. I do have experience with umbrella cockatoos and helping ones who were abused and would pluck. I stepped in and helped as Ive owed parrots since age 7 and I'm 37. I live in PA. .

She is about 22 yrs old now and Ive had her since she was 3 mos old. I dont have any small children, so Im not sure how she might react to them. She’s not unfriendly but she can be cage territorial and her preferred human territorial. She can be bitey if she doesnt want to do something. In general she does vocalize a few times a day. Im in Western Wisconsin. She rides well in the car… I traveled from Northern Alabama to Wisconsin (13.5 hrs) with her…. And she did very good….

That all sounds like the typical cockatoo attitude. Lol . My two oldest daughters are 11 & 9. Theyve been around birds and so has my little girls but I'd take it slow regardless if your girl was living here as the little girls are elementary age and any bird needs time to adjust . I live in PA and two yrs ago I was out to Wisconsin .. the part I was at was 8 hr drive. Right now I'm 26 weeks pregnant and I don't think I'd want to drive that far but would be willing to meet half way or wait til after spring. I have had cockatoos before. Just not a goffin yet.

Waiting until spring is okay…. I wont travel this late in the year, due to possible snow. I will be traveling in the Spring but Im headed down south so Im not sure how that would work for a meet….. I’d have to see if I can swing a detour.

Same here! I've traveled to Chicago and Wisconsin in Feb/march time but not this far along in pregnancy. Im sure we could figure a place to meet when the time comes. Would you like me to send you my phone number or FB messenger and we can chat more about your sweet girl? I can discuss with a mod since you are new to the online forum.

That would be okay.

Actually it looks like you are close to that ten mark for posts. So if you want to comment one last time on this post. We should be able to message each other privately after that! I am home for most of the day except maybe 4 hrs max when I go to work but most of the time my hubby will be home so if we were chosen to adopt her she wouldn't be alone for very long. Is she a cockatoo that likes to be center of attention or more one who likes to listen and watch from her cage?

My BF works from home and so she’s never alone, I work outside the home 4 days a week. She likes both…. She will watch from her cage and when she wants to she will come out. She is used to me working outside the home…. My ritual is to always say goodbye to her when I leave and greet her first thing when I come home. i think the reason she does okay is because she always knows that there is alone time….
