For Labell

Both your girls are absolutely gorgeous! I love how Zoe just turns into a puddle of adorableness.

I just fainted....cuteness overload!! She is such a doll, I just adore her. Other than taking her cage apart does she ever do anything naughty, she always looks like such an angel?

She attacks our son. Every time he walks into the room she flies to him and then starts to pinch him on his neck and ears. It doesn't help that he's afraid of her.

Yeah, if he'd stand up to her she'd turn into mush, but he's been afraid from the start.

How old is your son? My son got bit quite badly by my older amazon when he was a kid, it leaves a lasting impression!

Does he have a desire to make friends with her or no way? Has she broken the skin or is she teasing/taunting him?

He has zero desire. She's never broken the skin, but she's scratched him because her beak has sharp spots.

So no willing her to him, I forgot how old is Zoe? I have two sons but only one wants anything to do with birds! Bad childhood experiences.. Karma hated EVERYONE but me and even though I was super careful he still nailed them both a couple of times!

Isn't it odd how they just know, and react to people who fear them like that?

And it seems to be a universal macaw truth... if they sense fear, they respond to it aggressively... even a bird as mushy as this... and they don't get any mushier than this from what I'm seeing...

And folks who fear them, often provoke their own bites.

Mine do the exact same thing. They will play with, and dote over ANYONE who isn't afraid of them...

I've actually been more fascinated than aftaid of macaws, even the super aggressive ones I rehabed. I really think it's the lack of fear, and the willingness to stand my ground, that allowed me to handle them. I think that's the "big secret" to the "macaw gene." They sense love and fascination, not fear...

And once you trigger that play thing, it's all over, you're the playmate. Period!

These guys and the red fronts are so similar in behaviors it's scarey... and they come from the same basic part of Bolivia. Must be something in the water, eh?!

These guys and the red fronts are two of the very best pet quality macaws out there... you can't go wrong with either one.

I'm still partial to greenwings too, but these little guys are just amazing!!!

It's the truth Mark. My vet, who poked and prodded her she's mush with, but his assistant is tentative and fearful and Zoe tried to go for her face to give it a good chomp.

Somehow they JUST KNOW... and you're not allowed to get anywhere close to them if that's the case...

Every macaw I have ever owned, worked with, or even intervened with, has done this, and I wonder why...

Showing fear seems to be one of the critical factors in macaw ownership.

And thinking back, the relationship with "good macaws" going bad, often changed when the owner got bit once or twice too hard, and began showing fear... after that the bird became "aggressive."

WHY?!

This is a very real component of these birds behavior...

Even the "getting picked by the bird" relates to this...

I walked up to completely strange to me macaws out on the playstand down at the rescue, and started playing with them. The next thing I know, I've got SIX of them climbing all over me, wanting to be the center of my attention, and pushing other people away...

Who flinched, AND HAD TO BACK OFF AT THAT POINT...
