emergency help please

If you can get a small 25 watt bulb.. You might have one in you refrigerator... Also you can leave the top of the cooler partially open to vent some of the heat..

The idea is to use the smallest heat source you can.. You want it to struggle to keep your desired temp.. That way there is no chance of over heating..

the cooler is open on the top about a little over 1 and a half inches almost 2. but it also has a towel over it. should i still use the 40 or change to 25

It depends on the size of the cooler and the temp in the room..... I think a 40watt bulb is to big.. I would use the 25watt bulb.. . And monitor it..

May I ask Why do you have it open with a towel covering it?

its opened because the lamp is a little to big for it to close completely.

I understand... Just be careful not burn anything....especially your house;)

i ended up changing the light to a 38 and it seems like its doing just right. How often should i candle it?

I don't see a need to candle it.. If you noticed blood vessels then I would believe its a viable egg... It's either going to hatch or not... Just remember to turn the egg... ( turn on its axis , not to rough..) just take note of incubation period.. And when it approaches then candle...

If the egg develops mold, cracks or starts to smell... It's a good sign that it's gone bad..

Let me add a disclaimer.. I have never incubated a bird egg... But I have incubated 100's of reptile eggs(I breed giant tortoises)...

Good luck

Incubation might be the easy part...Feeding those tiny things every few hrs.. God bless you..I'll keep my fingers crossed for you...

unfortunately my little egg has pasted away today. The odds were stacked against him and he couldn't make it to hatch. The developed into a fetus but then died. I tried my best thank you to everyone who supported me and gave me advice.

Valiant effort! I was following your post since the beginning and was excited to see the egg hatch. You did what you can when most other people would have given up (myself included).

My brother and I attempted to hand raise a baby that fell out of our birdhouse and it was doing quite well until a well meaning neighbor told my brother to give it a bath. It didnt last long after that.

At least you tried....It's not easy to hatch a egg without a proper incubator....

Sorry, you tried though! :(
