Oh I'm so jealous.. :( I love zons! What beautiful birds, can I come on a play date?!

Yes, please. I'd love that...and I know the flock would, too. :) Anytime you are on this side of the ocean you must stop by, Joshua! :)

Those are so great Wendy! They're both beautiful AND so adorable :) thanks for sharing.

Great pics, Wendy! Those are two beautiful amazons! I especially love the last one of Sam. That has to be the one that spurred the angelic comment. Such a sweet expression.

my future boy.... Rosie.... go ahead, start enabling....

 Oh my world...GORGEOUS!!!! He SO deserves to be in a good home already. :D If I weren't fully booked out, he'd be on my wish list.

Wendy - This is the amazon I was teasing you about adopting so I didn't end up bringing him home!!!! Come on, help me out here... he would look gorgeous with your group :)

Will this become a contest of who gets 'stuck' adopting Rosie!!??

In all reality, I doubt he will be adopted, no one seems to contact a shelter looking for an amazon. I was never an Amazon fan, but have loved seeing the pics and reading the stories on here :) Rosie just had me laughing from the moment I met him, did not want me to touch him and flat out refused to step up, but then he hung out next to me on the table and just started his commentary. He's a stocky thing too, we were shocked how heavy he was, he's like a big pear bottom bean bag!! :)

I probably would have brought him home by now if we had room for another cage in the living room, but that would mean Tor would have to give up the PVC playstand, tho it hardly gets used. But, no one should fret, I promise when we move, first thing to do will be the adoption paperwork for Rosie... I'd be shocked if he goes before then, tho Jeanne introduces him to every potential adopter, but guess its few and far between that someone wants a rescue zon! But having needy girl Ivory, having a bird who hangs out without needing to be center of attention would be a welcome addition. Besides, who could not love hearing 'hot bananas' yelled out for apparently no reason!!! :)

You guys are all such a bad influence.... bad, bad, bad.... :09:

I truly am out of room. Remember, we have 2 rather big pooches, too. ;) There is no way I could ever fit another cage into the "bird" room, folks are already running into Hunter's cage. :52:

In all honesty though, even if I had room, I'd be so afraid to mess up my current "harmony". No, it may not always "SOUND" harmonious, but my guys (and gal) truly get along so well, and I feel so blessed because of it.

'C'mon Jen...one little Amazon...just look at him, how can anyone refuse a face like that? :D Folks don't know what they're missing out on with him. ;)

Wait a sec...you just said Tor would have to give up his playstand if you were to fit one more cage. AND you said that playstand is hardly used.

PROBLEM SOLVED. :09:

Every "bird" home needs an amazon;) Especially one as pretty as Rosie. Any clue how old Rosie is? He's got a lot of yellow, he looks like he might be a "tres' marie" DYH. Especially if he's a younger bird where that color is going to spread more. What a stunner, you best not let him slip away.

Jen, are you fully convinced? He's incredible, you must have have him, but then there is also Chyna.

Allee - Just saw you in the gang of enablers :) I've been convinced Rosie would come home if he was still available, was just a when, tho now everyone has me thinking, hmmmmmm, what about....

As for Chyna, I have come to accept that I don't think I'll ever be able to have another 'child' with Ivory. Chyna would definitely want to spend time with me and is an absolute sweetheart and I know it would affect Ivory terribly to have another bird love in my life... we joke that is why Rosie is a perfect addition, he does not really like to be touched, much rather prefers to oversee things. Ivory gets so stressed and worked up when I even talk to Folger (you know I can't handle him!!), but she screames bloody murder if I pick up Loki and she is on my shoulder, you would think it was a personal assault. She does not even like having another bird on her cage, not aggressive, she is just terrified.

Have to admit all these zon pics make me think of just bringing home Rosie, if he can thrive in a rescue environment, then a move in his own comfy cage shouldn't be a problem for him :)

Forgot to answer Kiwi!!! Rosie is an adult, thinking he is around 10, but I could be wrong. Know he's been at the shelter a bit now...

He is still very young. An amazons color spreads every year throughout their whole lives. That's a very atypical amount of yellow for a DYH, so the more I look at him, the more I would believe he is a tres marias variation. With the amount of yellow Rosie already has, I wouldn't be shocked if he had a similar amount of yellow as the bird does in 10-15 years: http://www.your-bird.com/pictures/animal/80_q338u56zkgsg2bkshtc3enbz.jpg

Amazons really are good, hearty birds who give you very little serious behavioral grief (now the cute tough-guy birdie kind of grief, o well they have a whole lot of that to go around). Even better for the already busy parrot servant, zons are typically content to just do their own thing, occasionally mocking your labors of love with funny noises and ridiculous head/wing movements. You don't really even NEED a cage, an amazon will happily live in your pantry (though, you may want to give him a cage if you value having food to eat);)

Kiwi... you are so not helpful!!!! I'm looking at the pantry and thinking, hmmmm... but too many boxes of tea... have to move those...

I love that pic! Victoria and I both just laughed, we need to go grab him before someone else realizes! His striking good looks is part of what I feel in love with, literally was a moment where my jaw dropped when she brought him out. Even the photo of him just does not justice.

He is really a heavy amazon, and not fat, just solid and wide. Much heavier then any other zon we met or photographed at the rescue. Would the tres marias variation be a 'heftier' variety?

Okay, after seeing the photo, need to go drive an hour and half to steal Rosie... the joke is I can take whomever I want long as I don't bring Folger back!! :)

I have never seen a tres marias in real life, just read (and dreamed) about them. But I *think* the variation is simply in their colorations, not their size. That said, I think DYHs are big birds by nature. I haven't ever seen a particularly "small" one but my mom's female DYH is the LARGEST one I have ever seen. She is easily 15" long, and a solid 520-530 grams of pure muscle. She isn't fat either, just an overall monster of a bird. She was wild caught, so we wonder if she didn't somehow get some mealy blood in her:p
