Conures and Pionus in same aviary?

I have just been offered a pair of red-eared conure, but only place I have left is an aviary reserved for a pair of broncewinged pionus.

Would they be able to share an aviary? The inside is 1x2 metres with 2,6 metres of height, the outside is 1x3 metres with 2,3 metres of height.

They are about the same size both of them should be about 28 cm and both species comes from South America.

Would that work?

Conures are like putbulls when they are defending their territory. It MIGHT work depending on the temperament of the individual birds but I wouldn't count on it. In all honesty I would expect injuries at the very least, and dead birds if you don't keep a tight rein on reproductive hormones.

That said while I have had both conures and Pionus, I have never had either of the specific species you mention.

Ok, thank you, then I won't say yes to them. I do have an indoor aviary available, but they will then never be able to come outside. I guess that would not be a great life.

They are actually different sized birds, with the red eared conures being smaller than pionus.

It's like saying cockatiels and hahns macaws are the "same size" when cockatiels weigh around 90 grams and are slender and hahns macaws are about 165 and "bulky". Both are 12 inches in length.

I would say it's definitely doable, but if you do not know your pionus's personalities with other birds, and you don't know the conure's personalities either, probably not the best of ideas.
