Hi there I’m Nicole from Maine and this is my baby Sweet Pea....

She is only 6 months old and getting more friendly and trusting every day!! I have been a bird lover my whole life and before Sweet Pea I had a rescued African Grey who had a rough life before me but the last eight years of his life was filled with love and fun!! I am looking for a Cockatoo here in Maine and am having a really hard time!! Does anyone know of any Breeder or someone looking to rehome a larger bird? I would love a Cockatoo but I am really pretty open to any larger bird!!

- Please take a very long and detailed read of the Cockatoo Forum!!!
- Please understand with great depth the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of owning a mid-size and larger Too, before you take any steps toward a Breeder!
- Please take a very long look at just how many Toos are in Rescues (thousands)! And, just how many have serious emotional problems!
- If you live in an Apartment, once you have a Too, you will likely not be living there anymore!

Research, Research, Research!

Very knowledgeable people have wonderful relationships with their Too's. NOTE, the use of the term Knowledgeable!!! It is the critical difference between a dream relationship and a truly Bloody Nightmare!

Hello to you and Sweet Pea in Maine!

Rescues would be a great place to start looking for a 'too. Also some great advice has already been given. Cockatoos are not for the faint of heart and will test your limits daily! I myself love the Major Mitchell, Black Palm and Moluccan! Good luck in your search for a cockatoo. A good resource I have also found for weaned baby parrots is birdbreeders.com ! You can enter in your state and bird you're looking for and get a list of results.

Does anyone know anything about Rosella Parrots? I have the chance to adopt one but known absolutely nothing about them and can’t find any info on them in captivity

I have 2 Rosellas (One Eastern, one Crimson), both are former breeders and not tame. Neither one is what I would call loud, and both are really laid back. I know people who have really tame ones and they do make wonderful flock members.

I ended up taking him because they were going to bring him to the animal shelter that doesn’t take anything but dogs and cats so who knows what would have happened to him!! I couldn’t bare the thought of someone euthanizing him because they didn’t have the room or knowledge! I’m just giving him time to himself in quarantine for a while and seeing how it goes!! He is absolutely gorgeous though!!!

Just do your homework on a cockatoo and know yourself. Are you a patient person and will you be able to devote your time to the bird? Cockatoos can be sweet and cuddly, but also very manipulative.
