BongoBird, the new kid on the block

Hello all,

Our family has recently added a new member to our home, Bongo. Bongo is a nine-week old flame macaw who came home with us two weeks ago. We have been thoroughly enjoying the new addition and learning him as he learns us. I understand his age may be cause for concern, but my wife and I both have experience with owning and raising birds. To this point it has been a positive adoption and I am happy to report that the hand feeding is going well. Bongo is gaining weight daily (he is weighed on a digital scale every morning on an empty crop before his first feed).

We look forward to starting a thread about life with Bongo in the coming days or weeks. Until then we have many questions and hope to learn from your community, especially since this is our first experience with Macaws.

I will post some pictures as soon as I get them uploaded.

Hey Bongo Bird, welcome to the forum. My mother had a Scarlet named Bongo. Congrats on handfeeding your own baby. I guess you got the word on some of Kaytees Hand feeding formula being recalled a couple of months ago. You know you better hurry with the pics !!! We're gonna bug ya.

Thank you all for the kind comments. We are very pleased with his coloration. When he came home, he had such few feathers, it was hard to predict how he would turn out.
