Black Widow Bite!!

Wendy, I am sure glad you are doing better today. I am envious of your vitals today. Mine are a bit high as I am still dealing with some anxiety (long story).

So I am thinking if NJ has Black Widows I wonder if the good ole frozen tundra Minnesota has them as well. I have never seen one in my life as long as I lived in MN. I have seen strange creatures when in CA, FL and Hawaii but never the black widow. I guess I am concerned because....well..Valentino has developed an appetite for my house creatures. I rarely have flying insects anymore and I have noticed a lack of spiders on the downstairs level where his cage is located. Wonder if Valentino could get sick or die from eating one???

Betrisher - I have always wanted to visit Australia. It is the long plane flight that basically stops me. I have a friend in NZ that has been begging for me to come as well and I just can't do that long of a flight. I wish I could and at times wonder if basically drugging me up would help for the flight. I really really hate to fly though. I also wonder if you use the dunny with the door open. Honestly that would be my style. Leave the door opened while I use it so I can watch and see whats going on. I know...TMI right?

ROTFL!!! Noblemacaw I will tell you a secret: sometimes, when there's interesting birds in our yard, I do leave the dunny door open a crack so I can watch them. My husband has also drilled a hole in the dunny wall for my birdwatching purposes. I understand what you say about flying - my Auntie was given Valium so she could fly to the UK. Apparently, it worked, but she arrived feeling groggy and awful. Once upon a time, you could sail to far-away places but I don't think that's affordable any more. We'll just have to satisfy each other's curiosity by describing our countries to each other, eh? :D

Glad to hear you are okay Wendy!

Rebecca, YES, there are Black Widows in some part of MN. I didn't expect that at all.
Potentially Dangerous Spiders

Are you saying Valentino actively seeks out creepy crawlies and then goes and eats them? :11: If so, I'd be careful of wasps, bees, and other stinging insects. ALL spiders have venom, and all will use it when threatened.

I now have this visual of "Valentino the Exterminator". :30:

Wendy, I am glad you are doing better. I was worried about you when I read you got bitten by a Black Widow. I never seen a Black Widow personally but I know we have brown recluse spiders in Kansas.

Hi Wendy, I had a Illiger's macaw that use to eat insects as well. Diego would eat anything that flew and I caught him eating a small spider a couple of time. Just YUCK. I use to kiss him.

It looks like Valentino is following Diego's trend. Valentino will fly to me and bring me presents. Mostly chewed off toy parts or pieces of wood but I know I would have a tiny heart attack if he brought me an insect. Gross indeed!

I wonder if Panama Amazons have a taste for the insects. If the pan does it could end up being a competition here between then but my home would be pest free. LOL
