Bixby Update

Stephen, sending you and Bixby lots of well wishes all the way from Oz. Hope he is back to his old ways soon. The flying today seems to be a positive.

Stephen that sounds like some good news! Sounds like someone is feeling a little more energy! :D and that he really was liking the barley?! Sounds great! Happy to hear. Hopefully this is a good sign.

Yeah, I'm cautiously taking it as good news as well! He didn't quite make it to his intended mark, but he had energy enough to think he at least had a chance. That's a good thing, I think.

Stephen, that's great! Bixby flew eight feet, that's a big deal and I'm so happy to hear it. Barley, huh, who knew indeed?

I'm quite happy myself, Allee! Cautiously so, but happy nonetheless. Barley rocks!!!

I'm hoping Mr. Bixby is on the road to recovery now. Sounds like he's feeling a little better if he's flying a bit and is wanting food (barley though, who would've guessed?). I've been following this thread and it sounds like you've been taking excellent care of him through his illness. I hope he recovers fully soon!

Thank you so much, Amanda! Bixby now has quite a few friends from Oz, and we're happy to count you among them!

Thanks, April! That means a lot. I'm hoping he recovers soon as well. Another two weeks to go on this treatment, I believe. Sigh. Going to be a long two weeks. I so miss all of the flight drills that I usually do with him. Or our roughhousing games like "Eat Your Face" and "Finger Boxing"! He's just been through so much, you know? He deserves to beat this thing. He's been such a soldier.

He's earned a victory.

Stephen, I am thrilled to hear that Bixby felt good enough to fly to you!
What kind of barley is he loving so much? We added pot barley to the chop Janine and I did and my birds seemed to love it as well:)

It certainly does.

Hoping his health is on the up and up now, sweet Bixby deserves to feel better soon!

Thanks, Terr!

Haha! I didn't even realize there were different kinds of barley. I asked my wife what kind of barley she'd picked up, and she just looked at me quizically and said, "...barley." So deadpan. Lol! I'll just take a look at the bag, later.

Thanks, Mark! I truly hope so.

Glad he's on the mend. The pics are beautiful.

Thank you! And I'll promptly pass on your compliments to Sir Bixby!

Thank you, Melissa! At the moment I'm concerned because his weight has been hanging between 350 and 366. The vet had said any lower than 350 is a problem.

Yesterday morning Bixby had decided to only eat whatever I hand-fed to him. Not cool! He is going to come out of this SO SPOILED! Sigh. But whatever it takes.

Bixby is so lucky to have you and Aida:) And something tells me he may have already been a little spoiled knowing how well ya'll take care of him anyway:)

Bixby's condition has worsened a bit since I last posted. He's gotten even more picky with his food and I had to spend hours this morning getting him to eat. And his weight has gone below the benchmark the vet set as the minimum healthy weight for him. (350)

I'm trying to get in touch with another vet in my area, as Bixby's only works Friday - Monday. I'm also going to reach out to him as well.

This is FRUSTRATING! I'm also leaning toward taking a page out of Pinkybirdy's book and pulling him off the Metacam. Maybe this is an adverse reaction like what happened to her amazon.

Oh Stephen, I was so hoping for better news:( Please let us know if you are able to reach another vet, my heart is aching for you.

More prayers to Bixbie and you.

Just discovered this thread, Stephen, and hope Mr. Bixby will soon kick this tenacious infection. You and your wife are such dedicated and loving parronts, and he is an astoundingly handsome Ekkie!

I assume the vet did a complete workup to include various cultures from both ends? A quick read of this thread seems to suggest the precise organism of infection is not known? You are wise in reaching out to another doc, presumably with the intent to benefit from a second opinion. Sometimes a specific patient history resonates with a doc who has seen similar.

Stephen, how is Bixby doing now?
