I am looking for some good recipes containing mostly beans.

my birds already enjoy the vegetables, fruits and leafy greens, and thought I would change it up a bit.

I looked up to 8 pages for bean recipes but couldn't find any:rolleyes:

I offer fresh fruits and veggies and beans to my birds and mix it up a lot. I usually give a bowl of a frozen (thawed out) carrots, corn, peas, and green beans, and fresh bean sprouts and broccoli. You can buy the sprouts at a store or sprout them yourself. Make sure all foods given are organic so there aren't any harmful chemicals! I also give strawberries, bananas, and oranges sometimes. Fruits and veggies are great to add variety to your birds diet and also is extremely healthy! I also give my breeders mashed up boiled eggs shell and all. heres how to make a birdie mash for your birds.
1. plumped cracked corn or popcorn. To plump put in crockpot overnight
2. frozen veggies containing peas, corn, green beans
3. steamed yams.
4. fresh broccoli and whatever other veggies you have (EXCPET AVOCADO)
5. undercooked brown rice or whole wheat pasta.
6. cooked beans, any types except fava beans, mix it up.
freeze the leftovers and then thaw it out to use later!

thanks both of you!....great ideas, I am looking forward to making up something new for my birds...:)

No kidney beans, either...

Mung, chickpeas/garbonzo, adzuki, lentils and split peas/sprouting peas are considered the best legumes to use and healthiest as well.

I typically just cook them up and feed them in a mash/chopped/fresh/cooked diet... combined with grains, vegetables, fruits and sometimes sprouts. Not currently feeding this, but the birds are getting some legumes in their sprout mix instead.

that looks rather tasty, no wonder birds love it...

monica- I know about black eyed peas(*no not the group, lol) why is it not safe to feed kidney beans, just curious, as I have seen them on numerous lists and recipes, and mine are always cooked thoroughly, never ever raw.

**F.Y.I.---I came across this on another site, I didn't know or even think about this**...I just love learning about birds

7. Tomato Leaves
Tomatoes, like potatoes and other nightshades, have a tasty fruit that is fine when used as a treat for your bird. The stems, vines, and leaves, however, are highly toxic to your pet. Make sure that any time you offer your bird a tomato treat it has been properly cleaned and sliced, with the green parts removed, so that your bird will avoid exposure to any toxins.

thanks for the info jerseywendy, luckily I give my birds white organic beans along with other types of organic beans.....silly birds eat better than I do :)

As JerseyWendy put, the beans can be toxic if undercooked.

Couple other pages..

I used to give the 13 bean soup mix varieties and making sure they were fully cooked, but I prefer to stay away from them now. After all, if using the legumes I listed, they can be fed sprouted or cooked, rather than being limited to only cooking... and providing raw/living foods can be quite healthy for our feathered companions.
