Thank you Jen & Tami!!

Christa, hydration wouldn't have made them drop that much, we feel pretty sure that the first sample was contaminated since they did a nail clip draw and I have doubts they even cleaned his nail first.

Ugh, that is terrible to even think about!
Always start with a clean sample plze - or how can you test correctly?!

Anyway- sooooo relieved the last batch was showing much better values!
(Not sure exactly what levels would be completely normal for your individual bird of course.)

So Awesome!!! Practically perfect blood work!! So glad you didn't do that x-ray at the scary vets office!! I always tell people to trust their gut! So very happy for this news!!!

Phoe, I've got a long-distance New Year's Eve kiss for you, my little love!

So relieved that you're hanging in there.

Oh wow! Thank God for this Christmas miracle!!! :D I'm SO happy Phoe is all right!

Great to know Phoe is improving and I hope he continues to go from strength to strength!

I am so glad I didn't too, I so wish I had just waited the extra day now rather than going to that vet at all. I will know better next time!

Phoe sends one right back to his Aunty Gail!

Thank you Chris, it was the best news ever!

Terry, I'm *so* relieved for you and Phoe! I can't imagine what you've been going through, but I promise I've been sending my bestest prayers that Phoe's condition might improve and quickly. Isn't it great that he can start the new year with a clean bill of health? Thanks for letting us know the latest results: we've all been anxious for the poor little bloke!

Trish XX

PS. Barn, Madgie and 'Setta send their very best to their friend, Phoe. (In fact, 'Setta said SKRAAAAARRRKKKK, but I think she was only showing off). :)

Excellent news that Phoe is improving :D What a huge relief! I’m so happy for you Terry. That’s so hard to be stressed out and worried like that for days on end!

Phoe sends his best right back to you and your babies! Thank you for the prayers, and it is a great way to bring in the new year!

Thank you Julie! I feel like a ton of weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I think I will actually be able to sleep tonight:)

Ah, so happy for you Terry! It's always good to hear of stories that have a happy ending! Sleep well!

Celebratory news, and endorsement for moving heaven and earth to have a trusted and competent CAV.

I'm well aware in many areas this is sadly not a possibility.

This is so true, Scott. I am dreading when my vet retires, I have no idea what we are going to do. I know we have one other one who is considered competent, so I guess that may be the only choice. Hope it is a long time from now.

This news could not have been better! It's insane that the other vet so badly botched the first set of tests! Contaminated nail clipping? That's incompetence on a nearly cosmic scale. Ridiculous.

Please give Phoe some extra scritches for me, Terr. I'm so happy for him!

I can't believe it, either. I am so thankful, but really upset about it because what if I didn't have my own vet and was told there is nothing to be done? Would she have suggested euthanizing him?
It gives me chills.
Consider the extra scritches given, Uncle Stephen:)

Good grief!!! There is no way that simply hydrating Phoe brought his UA down that much!!! So that first Vet couldn't even do blood-work correctly...I must have missed the fact that they used a toenail-clipping to get that round of blood-work done. I thought that they had finally decided to just draw the blood from his Jugular Vein without any sedation or anesthesia (like they should be doing all the time anyway) after you kept refusing it...So that explains a lot...That would most-likely have put his UA and Creatine levels in the "high-normal" range, which is not at all indicative of any type of Kidney Disease, Gout, etc., but rather indicative of an Infection...

Nothing like scaring the crap out of you and making you think your bird is dying of Kidney Disease to ruin your holiday...I think I'll give my CAV a hug the next time I see him. We tend to take our CAV's for granted (as well as my Certified Herp Vet who is also extremely good with my Beardie)...It's sad that Vets like this are the only option a lot of people have anywhere near them. You're right Terry, a lot of people with less bird/medical experience would have just followed everything that Vet said to them because they don't know any better, and because they want to do everything they can that is best for their bird, and why wouldn't they trust a Veterinarian who is willing to see/treat birds? If they weren't qualified to diagnose/treat birds, then why would they be doing it, right? My God, what if someone in this situation were to follow that Vet's advice, thinking that their bird was dying of kidney failure, was in pain, and that there was nothing that could be done and they were just going to suffer for a long time and then die a painful death, so the owner made the decision to euthanize their beloved bird. Then they decide to have a necropsy done just to see what the cause of the kidney disease was for future reference, only to find out that their bird's kidneys were fine and they simply had a little infection that was easily treated...Can you imagine going through that? I would be arrested...
