i think it would be interesting if any of you could tell a story of how an airplane trip went with your parrot...
here is mine:
i flew for four hours with my lovebird, and I was so nervous! we got to skip all the lines, even the pet line because the police dog was getting distracted with Pebbles, my bird. then, Pebbles went crazy when the flight attendant showed her her blue glove, squawking and saying "peekaboo"😂 then she was mostly quiet on the plane, cuz i put her small cage on the little table in front of me. but when i had to put her under the chair, she panicked, poor Pebbles, especially cuz it was dark.to take her on the airplane, it cost more than me and my mom combined!

Under extreme duress and schedule pressures, I once flew from El Paso, TX to Cleveland, OH, with the Rb under my seat... I tried doing crate training, etc., beforehand, but... no good. He screamed NO and GAIL and unintelligible horrors all the way. I think the crew almost pushed me out the plane! Patagonian Conures are famous screamers and rascals... I'm hopeful that other birds would have more promise!

I was the accompanying husband on this Voyage Through Hades. I tried to have sympathy for the bird, but mostly I tried to act as though I didn't know either of the offending parties..........................the parrot screaming horrible things or the wife cooing sweet little nothings to him. I would rather sit in batter acid for four ours than endure that again.

Love you, honey-bunch!!

I've got fond memories of flying with my CAG. No problem with travel carrier since it was used to transport to/from vet. Should've been worried with the silence. Near end of flight, I started hearing peekaboo. When we landed there was a new enormous hole. The stewardess started laughing as the peekaboo continued. I was mad, embarrassed and annoyed all at once. It got even worse. I was informed that the carrier wouldn't be acceptable for the return flight. Fortunately the return trip was by car. I purchased a metal teil cage for return trip. Only a few prongs were bent but no holes!

I've flown cross-country with Bumble four or five times (so 8-10 flights). She's a pro! I have an XS pak-o-bird which fits perfectly under the seat. I put it down there on it back, top end out so she can see me. After takeoff I put her carrier in my lap or on my tray table, although last time we flew red-eye so I did leave her under the seat for a lot of that flight. We know exactly what to ask for as we go through security, TSA always thinks she's so cute, I frequently hear how nice her carrier is. I will say that treating myself to TSA pre-check was really a game changer. Not having to take off my coat and shoes and remove my laptop, Kindle, iPad, and tiny bottles of liquid while also trying to hold her carrier and not turn her upside down was really blissful.

People in the airport LOVE seeing a bird and she peekaboos a lot when we travel.

The best part is that I don't spend a single minute of my time away worrying about her, and she's happy wherever she is as long as she's with me.

My macaw has flown many times long distance—both domestically and internationally—but always in cargo. He always flew in a medium sized dog kennel with a perch. Years ago he used to fly on Continental. They even gave me frequent flyer miles on his behalf. 😂 RIP, Continental!

I remember a funny story from around 1970. My family had flown from California to Hawaii to visit my uncle who lived there. He had a talking mynah bird with a Scottish and English accent ( my aunt was Scottish and my uncle was English). My bird-loving mother decided we had to have a mynah bird of our own! We bought one in Hawaii and brought him back on the plane in a cardboard box under the seat. Mid-flight, the bird escaped and was hopping up and down the aisle. There was a bit of chaos until he was recaptured and put back in his box for the remainder of the trip. 😂

Times have changed a lot regarding bird transport and importation!!!!
