Another ring question

I’m curious about the ring development and knowing someone here can help me. Kiwi just turned a year some time in April and I’m assuming (know what that does) he will molt around late summer/early fall. Does the ring gradually come in over several molt cycles or is it like “BAM” here I am? And is it the same with the “mustache” marking by their eyes? Thanks so much

The first name of our IRN was Kiwi. He passed away after 15 years last week.

When we brought him home 15 years ago, we did not know the sex. Then in an year, we saw some black feather under his beak which we initially thought was some infection. Then we saw the mustache and the ring around the neck. It happened within 1 year of age.

I’m so sorry to hear about your guy, it’s the worst part of having pets. And thank you for your input. My Kiwi is just a year now and is confirmed by dna that he is a male but I’ve never had an IRN so I’m excited about how this ring appears.
