1 Scarlet Macaw named Chloe
Some of you may know my story about the rescued umbrella cockatoo Henry. Here is a link http://www.parrotforums.com/cockatoos/16467-cockatoo-rescure-stories.html Well Henry's vet visit didn't go so well he was very ill from all the chocolate that the couple gave him. The vet said he only had a few months to live if even that. So I did not end up keeping Henry. The vet adopted him and is going to keep him at the office for the remainder of his life. BUT the couple I got Henry from also had a Scarlet Macaw. The agreed to just give her to me so I took her to the vet and he gave her a clean bill of health. So now I have a new Female Scarlet in my house lol. She is the total opposite of Henry. She allows me to pet her and scratch under her wings. Doesnt try to bite me at all. She does however hate everyone else lol. Which doesn't really bother me because Im just glad she likes me haha. So I will update pictures here in a bit :) any advice on her will be great. THANKS!

Glad to hear that the couple gave you another bird but sorry to hear that Henry will likely have a shortened life. Looking forward to seeing photos of your new Macaw!

She looks beautiful! I'm going to name my next Macaw "Griphon" If it's not a rescue :D

You should wait and see what her personality is, a name will come to you that will be just right!

Are you getting her a new cage and perches?

Sorry to hear about Henry and so happy to hear that your Scarlet found a new loving home.
I would suggest names like Hope or Phoenix since she was lucky to make it alive and healthy. Best of luck with her. Joe

Oooooh, I love the name Phoenix, and it fits.
I agree with JJones.

Scarlet are one of the macaws that have issues....very like to only be a one person bird. He will need a different cage as that cage will not hold him for long once he starts the cage destruction rampage...lol...need the proper gauge of wire to with stand their beak's strength.

Grats on your pretty new Scarlet but sorry to hear about Henry.

She's gorgeous. I also like the name Phoenix.

Poor Henry though, some people, I swear. But at least it sounds like he'll be in good hands for the rest of his life.

I dont mind her being a one person bird. She is my bird so it will just be me and her lol. Today she said the name Chloe....So that shall be her name! lol She is already ajusting pretty good. She laughs really loud anytime I do. Also a new cage will be coming very soon. I get paid at the end of this month and she will be getting a huge cage. She also keeps saying apple. So I gave her some and she loves them lol. Also I was wondering if it is ok for them to have pineapple? I have some fresh that I just cut and wanted to know if I could give her some :)

Good luck with your new baby. Pineapple is okay. It comes dried in any food mix. Just not too much. A lot of fresh fruit will give her wet, loose poop. But, some should be fine. I have experience with only 1 scarlet. She was an old bird of an old friend. They really do bond strongly to one person. I inherited this old Scarlet when my friend died. She didn't last a year without him. Just pined away looking & waiting for him. They were together around 30 years. I don't know how old she was when they first got together. She died, in seemingly good health, from a broken heart missing him. She was old, also, remember. But, they are great, fun birds. And, as demanding as any other parrot!

I gave my birdies fresh pinapple this morning, along with a few grapes, pears, carrots, squash and corn. Silly things eat better than I do, I need to start eating like that. Though I did take a bite of the pear after I used half of it for the animals. That counts right? Right! :D

I knew when I saw the picture of Henry that things were dire, but I'm sorry to hear it was that dire.

WTH is wrong with people? They can buy expensive birds like 'Toos and macaws and then not bother to find out how to take care of them, or even give one a name!

I'm glad you have Chloe and that you probably saved her as well!

I'm sorry to pry-- but really? Henry was poisoned by chocolate? Amazing. It seems even the most basic bird education would include information on foods that are poisonous. I'm usually kind of overly forgiving about stuff but that just seems almost willfully ignorant.

Yes, they were giving him candy bars constantly. Go look at the picture of him in the intro section; it's very very sad.

Yes they gave him atleast 5 bite size snickers everyday! They also fed him hotdogs and fried chicken. Poor guy, breaks my heart that I had to leave him with the vet, but atleast he wont be getting candy anymore!

I just read the original intro thread. Incredible! Your vet sounds like a keeper.

So, did the owners just tell the vet to keep him or were they paid something? Just curious.
