Hi all, had some devastating news that my parrot was diagnosed with chronic leukemia. He is currently okay, and it was caught prematurely as he is currently ok and not in a decline (that I can visibly notice) , only had a small symptom being a wheeze.

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this and any advice/ stories/ prognosis/ anything whilst the vet is doing her research for next steps.

It's a shame in animals they haven't learn to manage it as well, and such a small article base and research done in avian species.

Thanks everyone

So very, very sorry. No matter what the outcome, I hope you find peace in the fact that your darling will be loved into Eternity by you. Few animals can be assured of that. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you that is very kind of you to say, trying to give him the best quality of life 💕

Thank you! He is extremely intelligent, has learnt two languages, really playful and randomly sings opera lol! Has had a rough first year of life of weekly vet visits due to a horrible breeder. Stabilised for 18 months and now a new diagnostic unfortunately. He really has survived so much. I hope he pulls through, was nice to have him stabilised and see him thrive. That first photo was when I first got him and the second is him now 🦜✨💕

**HUgs** SO sorry to hear about his diagnosis! Glad he's with you, though, and not somewhere he'd have a lower quality of life.

Thank you so much 💕

Well the people to get in touch with is the Avian studies dept at Cornell University, one of the world's leading unis on vet care and avian medicine. I'm a regular contributor to them, directing the funds to be used exclusively for Avian studies and parrot related ones in particular. They may be able to give your vet the heads up on new developments on leukemia.

Would you suggest I contact them from their website? Thank you for the advice

You can try drilling down from the website, but I'd try calling there too, a warm body will always have better info then some dweeb reading emails.
