I have a cockateil pair which had its 4th clutch and had 2 chicks hatched. The elder chick was health and is now 12 days old. The parent stopped feeding the chick since yesterday and I pulled it from the nestbox today and started on formulae. I saw that the chick is not the size of a 12 days old chick and its head keeps drooping . Sometimes its not able to stand by self .Can anyone kindly help on what I should do to help out the chick.

What temperature are you keeping the chick at, is the crop emptying normally?

I have it placed under a 40wats bulb. His crop keeps emptying in 2 hours

Is it an infra red/ceramic bulb. Have you got a thermometer set up in the brooder to check the temperature. Is he gaining weight since switching to handrearing.

Not sure what thermometer I should use but he started taking food and active after hand rearing

Using a brooder is ideal as that will maintain the right temperature, safely. Thermometer needs to be very accurate so you know the environment's not too hot or cold and avoid the health complications of this. Glad to hear he's taking food and more active. Do keep an eye on crop emptying and track weight each day or even at each feed.
