B&G Macaw, Galah, 5 cockatiels, 50 billion and a half budgies. We breed and do rescue. Too many to list each individual's name and age etc, but they are each individuals and loved dearly.

Has anybody ever used something like this for their bird? Freedom really doesn't test her cage here like she did in her previous home(maybe she gets out of the cage more here so is more willing to be in the cage? IDK). We want to give her more space, and this seems like an affordable way to give her lots more room. It is around the same price point as what I would consider the absolute MINIMUM size cage for her to be. And who are we kidding, we don't want to give her the MINIMUM amount of space, we want her to have lots of space.

The "aviary" would be her INDOOR cage, and her actual outdoor aviary(when we have time to build it) is going to be MUCH larger(and way more predator proof).

TIA

:blue1:

ETA: or would we be better off just building something for her?

Very cool!! I would just inquire what the bar diamter is and the spacing, you know how strong Macaw beaks are. Freedom is lucky girl.

One Lucky :)D) B&G !!!
Yup, check the bar diameter and spacing.
FYI: Consider stone tile or like 'hard as rock' flooring under the Aviary! It will make cleaning much easier and limit a Mac from taking up the flooring.

That is my main concern with it. It says the vertical bars are .08" and horizontal are .14" her current cage bars seem to be around .14" but I don't have calipers or anything, just a tape measure.

I definitely think she *could* pop the welds, I think it is more a question of if she *would*. She usually doesn't test her current cage. Today I was messing with budgies in front of her and she didn't like that one bit and was testing the cage. So I was thinking about putting tracks in the ceiling and hanging privacy curtains(think like in a hospital the curtains they have between patients in a double room) around the aviary that I could close before messing with budgies in the same room(or I could move her or the budgies to the living room before I mess with budgies).

I was thinking with that much space and plenty to occupy her, hopefully she wouldn't mess with the bars. To reduce interest in and stress on the wires, we were going to build a frame within the aviary set back from the wall a bit to hang toys, perches, ropes, etc. from. Basically like putting a play gym inside of the aviary as opposed to toys and things attached to the wires itself, if that makes sense.

Figure worst case scenario it arrives and we decide it is completely inadequate and the budgies have a new castle. :D

The tile is a GREAT idea. Mr. Bug and I are very glad for the suggestion and decided to tile the entire room before moving birds there and setting up an aviary for Freedom. Will make clean up SO much easier. Sweeping and mopping a non porus surface is so much more sanitary than just vacuuming a carpet.

If it hasn't already been said, I would check on the metal contents and make sure that it is not some sort of weird metal mixture---no zinc, lead, copper etc....You will also want to verify the contents of the paints.
If it is made in the USA this will be easier than if it is a foreign product but a lot of the stuff from China contains ingredients that you would not want around your bird's beak.
I know that there is a member with something like this for her cockatoos....I can't think of her username at the moment though....

I would inquire as to what kind of metal the aviary is made from as part of the decision making process.

It seems to be "NSF tested food grade" powder coated wrought iron.

My parrots have a shared (but with a divider) aviary that is 2x1x2meters.

I have been very happy with it. It can be made larger by buying more sides (and roofs), so if you think you will want to upgrade/downgrade the cage at some point, I would suggest looking into something a little more like this:

Aviaariot Papukaija: Aviaario Setti Papukaijoille 2M2

This is the model that I have, I can recommend it. But I dont think this particular one is available in the US; but something similar surely exists

This cage also can be made larger or smaller by buying additional kits. :D

I found a listing for the aviary on Amazon. Not only is it a bit cheaper there, but there are plenty of reviews and answered questions. Seems a lot of people keep B&G's in these, and there were even a few customer images of the cage all set up with big perches, toys, and ropes hanging from the bars no problem. Woo hoo! I think we found Freedom's next cage!

Every where I have seen the cage listed tho warns that the assembly will be a nightmare, so we have that to look forward to lol

That's a wonderful cage!
What's the cost in dollars and where is this company located? I'm unable to find anything like this. I like the flat top and you said it can be added onto?
Maybe I can purchase it, then have you send to me lol
