Hey guys,
Macaws have been a dream bird of mine since I was about 12. I am finally getting one. At this time, a mini macaw was a better choice for me, so I went with a Hahns.

The baby's name is Nalu. Nalu was hatched on 3/24/13.

I won't be getting Nalu until over the summer, but here are a couple of pictures the breeder sent me today.

ooo he/she is so cute! Are you going to be visiting he/she after he grows up a bit?

Unfortunately, no. I am going to have to have Nalu shipped to me. Nalu is coming from a reputable breeder with all great reviews. Although the shipping makes me nervous, I am sure all will be well.

I know that feeling as well, there is nothing you can do about it but hope he gets sent is a fair sized box/cage with food and water! Personally macaws scare me because of their big beaks and bluffing or "pretend to bite you" I know a lot of birds do this but macaws make it very scary. Maybe mini macaws are'rt as bad.

People have left reviews for this particular breeder saying they came in a nice crate with food, fruits, veggies, and even toys. A mini's beak isn't too bad, and I've had a cockatoo in the past.

He is sooo cute!! you must be excited. You said you have had a too [Im sure your ready] I just put a deposit on a baby RB2 that their shipping [my first time also] But Im not worried the breeder keeps me very updated. I love Hahns little voices [Ive been around a couple ] Jump in with training so their not nippy :) Congrats :)

Yeah, it was a goffin, but she was still very needy. She was actually my dad's, and she passed about six years ago. This will be my first bird since then. I am very excited. Their voices are funny, aren't they? I watched a video of one saying "What's up?" about eighty times while bobbing up and down. Very funny.

Thanks!

Congratulations! We will be getting a Hahns also, it is actually for my daughters 16th bday. Just
Like you, we will be getting ours over the summer and will have it shipped. Fortunately, the flight should only be about 2- 2.5 hours. Love their little voices, but after watching so many bird videos, if it mimics, I will NOT be teaching it to say "watchya doin?", lol, seems to be a favorite phrase for people that like to take videos of their birds mimicking.
I've heard so many opinions on the Hahns, most being good, but I have also heard the negative too. I even heard extremely positive and extremely negative comments about the same Hahns, depending on who was working at the shop I went to. Hmmmmm, I am guessing one of the employees was not the parrot's favorite.
Regardless, the overwhelming consensus is you get out of them what you put into them. Put a ton of effort into them and it will show.

haha I see that all the time too. I'm not sure people do it on purpose. I have always had a habit of saying to pets "What are you doin?"
I also agree, that is the case for almost any bird. You can use what you read as a guideline, but everything you do will affect the personality of the bird. Hahns can be nippy, but you can train to reduce this. Other than that, when raised properly, they are said to be playful, cuddly, talkative, and sweet.

I had Valentino shipped to me. First time ever I bought a parrot site unseen and had it shipped up to me as a baby. I was very nervous but after having a long conversation with the breeder I felt a lot more confident about the process. She explained the process in great detail, how she does it, why she does it her particular way, and she answered all my questions.

I was still nervous the day Valentino was shipped. She wanted a straight through flight but Valentino ended up having to take a connection from Texas to Denver THEN to Minnapolis/St. Paul. The day he was shipped we had a very bad snowstorm so a 20 min drive to the airport took over an hour. I was afraid they were going to start cancelling flights but Valentino's flight ended up arriving 20 mins early.

When his carrier was brought to me I peaked inside and said "Valentino?" At hearing his name he squawked loudly and hung on the front of the carrier starting at me. That was our first connection, my knowing his name and calling him by it. The carrier was a hard plastic high quality airline approved type and she had her husband install a really nice natural perch inside that had a flatter top because of the uniqueness of RFM feet (They have very long toes with long nails because they live in cliffs and stand on rock) Because Valentino had to adjust to his cage he slept in his carrier for the first 3 nights home. I use the same carrier to take Valentino places.

Valentino arrived not stressed in an excellent carrier, standing a a perch that was comfortable for his type of feet, two dishes filled with moist foods to keep him hydrated and the floor of the carrier with bedding to keep him clean (absorbed the liquid waste). Talk to your breeder and have them explain their process with you. That way you will know what to expect and will learn how it is done safely and properly.

Red Shoulder macaws are AWESOME! I love mini macaws but my first and most intense love of parrot will be with the Red Shoulder. My Noble macaw was the best all around parrot as a companion. I use to know people who had Hahn's as pets and they love their little green buddies. Yes, the Hahn's can be a little bit more nippy than a Noble macaw but in the end both of the sub species make wonderful first time parrots. They have so many positives rolled into one parrot. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the Red Shoulder parrots

Thank you for sharing! My breeder has explained the process very well for me as well. I also asked her to start calling the baby by name (Nalu) for the same connection you mentioned.
I am very excited. One of the mini macaws was the perfect choice for me, and I couldn't find any locally. I'm certain the minimal stress will be worth it for both me and my new feathered friend.:green2:

How exciting :D I bet your mind is racing about all the awesome things your going to do in preparation for her/his arrival!

It's all I think about! It's going to be a long couple months, but I had to wait for what I truly wanted.

Can't wait to see more of them I love hans my Ollie was so amazing!

You know your macaws! lol I've noticed that in many posts.
The breeder is going to keep me updated with pictures every couple weeks so I can see the baby grow.

Nalu is so cute. Can you message me the information of the breeder? Are they on birdbreeders.com? I am on the waitings list for a hahns macaw from a breeder in Oklahoma but I do not know when they will have any babies so I am still keeping my eyes open. If they have anymore hahns Macaws I would be interested. It would still give me enough time to to order the cage and get the cage ready for the bird.

Unfortunately, this was the only baby available from this clutch. She has some illiger's macaws as well. Kathy from All Birds Feathered Treasures.

Thanks for the info. I will talk to her about the illiger's macaws. I did find her on birdbreeders.com. I also found a breeder in Florida. I look forward to seeing future pictures of Nalu and seeing him/her grow and transform into a beautiful bird.
