I want to know weather an approximately 1 month and 20 days old Indian ring neck parrot can molt? is it natural at this small age?? I have two baby parrots of same age one male and the other one is female and they are only one n half months old. While the female one shows feather shedding from last 12 days and is not able to fly. On the other hand male baby parrot had not shown shedding of a single feather and can fly very efficiently. She is shedding single feather every day. Please suggest me what should I do?

At 6 weeks of age, I can't imagine they should be dropping feathers. Especially since they've just fully grown in around that age. But I'm no breeder and I have only ever dealt with fully weaned birds. I recommend taking them both to an avian vet to ensure that neither of the birds are harbouring any illnesses to be sure. Generally speaking most IRN's won't have a natural moult until 6-8 months of age.

I would watch any interactions between your birds. It could be possible that the male is plucking the feathers of your female. But if it's not that, to me it seems like an illness. Especially considering the stark contrast between the two. However, I will reiterate that I'm no expert.

No, baby parrots at this young, tender age do not molt (lose their feathers) unless another bird is plucking them out, or unless there is a health issue.

Thanks for all of u..... in my city there is no bird vet...what should i do

they both don't pluck each others feather. They are eating normally and stay energetic. I make them to take bath everyday with "neem" water which is antibacterial as well as antifungal without any side effect. Please suggest me what can i do to take her out of this trouble??

I don't think there's much you can do if you don't have an avian vet, unfortunately. Some illness are viral in the first place, which can be untreatable. Others are bacterial and can be treated. Generally feather loss is either diet related or health related, and feather health is a huge indicator of overall health.

If one bird has a full set but the other doesn't and it has nothing to do with plucking, my best guess would be that it's health related and likely infection based. I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help for your baby [emoji20]
