Nike a Hawk Head Parrot (Deroptyus accipitrinus)
Hi Folks,

I wanted a place, other than my shoulder or the back of the couch, for Nike to sit in the living room with us.

It's apparent to me that she is not a playful parrot. She doesn't touch toys, doesn't chew, and other than running back and fourth on the top of the couch, isn't all that active so I didn't need to make an elaborate stand.

I though this together with what I had laying around, a chunk of 4x4, some dowel, metal rod, and I ordered the cups.

As expected she basically just sits on it, choosing to eat, drink or bathe as the urge hits her.

Just happened to have a piece of white plastic to cover the plywood on the bottom so that the poop wipes right off.

At some point I'm going to make a nice furniture-like playstand (I make furniture as a hobby) but this will do for now.

Thanks, she would have been just as happy with a simple "T" ;)

Try tying some leather together for her to play with. The hawkhead at the store that I visit plays with the leather strips and the java balls. Simple toys.

Very nice and simple!

I'd suggest some newspaper strips to play with too, maybe a tissue with a hole popped in it over her food? She'll learn to play, don't worry. :)

Great play stand! Very nice job!

Thanks. It was one of those projects where I used what I had and the only cutting I did was to cut the edges of the 4x4....even the white plastic just happened to be the right size for the base, which was an unaltered scrap piece of plywood...weird how it all just fit together.

I retire (again) in a couple of months and by then hopefully Nike has settled in and I'll make her a nice one which my wife will be OK with in the living room.
