My hubby and i resuced a 10yr blue front amazon from a womans well house. He had plucked out his leg feathers and was extremely aggressive towards women. She claims that for the first 7yrs he was wonderful and then in one weekend he was introduced to a man for only 3 days and decided he no longer liked women. Two days after the weekend had passed the flew out of his cage just to bite her. She then decided to give him to her grandson and he kept the bird for 2 yrs but then gave him back because he had 5 kids and allergies. By this time she was married and her husband didnt care for the bird so they put him in the well house. My husband and i brought him home and put his cage in between our recliners and in a month and a half he as stopped plucking and stopped hissing and lunging at me everytime i am near. He has even gotten to where he will let me give him good long scritches through the cage bars for a treat. When we let him out though he is much more aggressive towards me! Sometimes he will let me near him enough to give him a treat and sometimes he wont even take a treat and just tries to bite(he never does that while in cage) He will do anything for my hubby tho except step up. He never tries to bite him! I am trying to teach him to step up on a stick and go into a pet taxi so that we can transport him when we need to. I have him on a training diet, i have taught him target training and even gotten him to step up for a split second at a time onto a wooden dowel as long as it is braced by the cage, if i am just holding it and it moves at all tho he wants no part of it. Im sure it would work much better if my hubby was the one working with him but he doesnt have the time or the patience. Any suggestions?? Do you think he will ever trust me the way he trust men? Im not even sure if he is a he im just guessing!!
