What happened when you first brought your bird home, what was your process of bonding? What worked and didn't work?

Bumble came from a breeder who did a wonderful job of taming her. I brought her home, let her sit in her cage for a day and fed her millet, and then started letting her out to play. She bonded with me very quickly and is mostly a little treat of a bird. So our process was very easy. She was also only 7 weeks old so that may have helped. I know my story is a lot different than some others though!

I brought the Rbird home and had him on my shoulder all night as I sat against a wall... the cage wasn't to be delivered until tomorrow. NO, of course, I couldn't leave him at the bird store until the nnext day! By the next morning, we were in love. Since then, I have let him do anything he wants. I didn't have Parrot Forums back in those days, so I "winged" it, and badly. He's a complete monster now, but he does love me.

I guess my first serious experience was over 30 years ago. A wild caught BFA youngster, ratty looking and just released from quarantine. There was no internet and limited info out there. Taming took place in a small a dark room.. gentle whispers and light touches for several days... just trying to gain trust. Like GG... I was winging it. After a few days and a quart of (my) blood later he and I trusted each other. In spite of the many mistakes I'm sure I made he became my best friend. We just shared breakfast together a few minutes ago.
2 things. I had to use bare hands because he panicked at the sight of gloves.
1 big mistake.. I did not "towel" train him early, so he goes on hi alert at the sight of a towel in my hands.
