Who here is a Christian?

I think it's better to be a humanist than a Christian. SOME (not all) Christians think it is ok to go around doing wrong because they can go to confession and ask forgiveness! I have heard of some truly TERRIBLE things that have gone on in the catholic church.

Mrspy, am I wrong to think that Christians preach tolerance? You assume that being a Christian puts you above others on the forum because you call us lesser mortals "trash". May God forgive you!

Forgive me that was the wrong thing to say. Man I suck at debates, I accidentally say something and it totally turns on you.........

And yes I have yeard about those kind of things to. Some people just say their Christians and arn't. I read that God would rather you be a non Christian than a "lukewarm" person....

The term "Christian" means nothing to me. I can say, I'm a Christian, but unless I treat others with respect, that negates any Christianity that I may claim. It's far more important to me to be kind, caring, and tolerant. It doesn't always happen, but I usually feel like I'm a good person. Note...I said a good person, and not necessarily Christian.

True story....A woman was referring to her Christianity, in a conversation with my mother and I. She was probably the meanest, most unkind, selfish woman I have ever known. She thought she was a fine Christian...attending church twice every Sunday. She truly believed that she could do as she pleased and ask forgiveness every night. She used this example, which absolutely flabbergasted me. She called her husband a "son of a b**** during an argument, and later asked God for forgiveness. My mother, who has similiar views as I do, replied "Oh Dear, you asked the wrong person for forgiveness" meaning she should have asked her husband for forgiveness, not God.

Every one has different views, which is normal for people who can think for themselves. Quoting the Bible is rather pointless....we don't know who actually wrote that piece of wisdom!

Please, let's stop this thread now. Perfectly rational and caring people get crazy and hateful when religion comes up.

I pay may bills, don't break laws, love my husband and kids, am a faithful wife, don't beat my kids and I'm an ethical employee...but because I'm an atheist, I deserve less respect than a pedophile who "found god"?

Good people along with "bad" people have bad things happen to them. But here's the thing, when something bad happens to a Chistian it dosn't have as bad an affect as it would with a non-believer. See Christians know it will be ok no matter what happens: if your house burned down, your pet died, your wife died. We know it will be ok.

On the other hand when something bad happens to a non-believer they don't know it's going to be ok.

A friend of mine had a garage that burned down and he's a strong Christian. When it burned he treated it as any other day, he just tried to keep the house from burning down but he knew it was going to be ok, because things that happen on earth seem very little in Heavan. :)

I have a feeling I can't convince you otherwise of what you believe and that's ok. Just think about what will happen to you when your life ends. Where will you go? Hell, or Heavan.

your friends knew it

of course going to be ok because his garage burnt down and not his house and there was no loss of life human family or other . now if it was a human family member your sure barking up the wrong tree .

im going where it is is they send good people after i leave this earth . i also belive that the world will never end it only ends when i the individual dies like so many others the world will end when they die and not before . put it this way i wouldnt say i fully dont beleive im just not as convinced about "GOD" as much as as when i was a impresionable kid .to many people have done me wrong in this life and gotten away with it .

Is there any way to delete a thread? I guess I know why they ban people from talking about this stuff now........

mrspy I think you as a Christain should be the first to know that God works in his own way. It's not up to you or anyone else to tell people what they should and shouldn't believe. The Bible has many stories about walking in others shoes and "He who is without sin cast the first stone" and it's those "Christains" who look down on or think less of others because they don't fit the "Christian" Mould that was set out by a Church which is reason why I dislike Church & religion. I nkow you mean well but the comments you are making are not coming across very well... maybe just stick to talking about your fids

I don't think it should be deleted. It should stay. I agree, why start a thread, and then talk about how it's a bad idea? Now whether discussion should continue, that's another story. But there were some interesting things shared in this thread. I just wish that people didn't get so fired up over religion (no one in particular in this thread, just in general) and didn't get into the mind set of "my way is the only way", because I honestly believe it would be a fascinating topic to discuss civilly.

why did u start the thread if u want to delete it?

Because I wanted to hear what everyone thought. I never would have guessed it'd get so out of hand.

Let's end the thread if you all please.

I agree, but that is nearly impossible, because religion, by it's very nature and definition, requires more emotion.

I thought this thread was fairly well behaved and the subject was discussed reasonably well...I don't understand why some think it's "out of hand"...

I don't necessarily think this one is "out of hand", but it's definitely on the way. Regardless of intention, there have been some insensitive, if not down right rude, comments made. I truly don't think they were made to cause any hurt feelings, but seriously, they weren't very conducive to a friendly debate.

Words to live by: Make sure mind is engaged, before mouth is in gear!

Oh Bobby I really like what you said about mind and mouth. Some people still need to learn this.

In case anyone chooses to judge me by a label rather than my actions let me for clarity sake say that I am certainly not a "christian".

I do think Jesus had much wonderful advice, perhaps the best was to be a christ-like example for others, not a preacher to others. I cannot imagine the man described in the new testament books ever saying that he could not have AS much respect for someone because they were not a Christian.

Now, while this thread is not 'out of control' yet, it's well on it's way. So, since on this forum I am god :) I will have to take your toys away until you learn to play nice with each other.
