Who else is doing a big declutter for New Years?

Tonight my sister helped me put away our Christmas decorations; my house is clean. So orderly, so recovered from the holidays and all the guests that have been in and out since September! Well, July really lol. And my poor mother in law refrained from sending lots of stuff home! I so appreciate that!

Making definite progress now. I completely cleared out our disastrous office closet and was thus able to set up a 'mini office' for my computer and a big cube unit I use for craft storage. My aquarium is also in here now and my Betta seems happier to be in a quieter/calmer space. We even took off the door and hung curtains instead so now it feels all cozy and nice.

I still have some little DIY projects to do, a few small things to hang and one last Goodwill trip but feeling I've started this year off right! Also, sir Kiwi has been enjoying all the activity and excitement (and probably the mess created by decluttering:p).

I'm very minmalist and can't stand clutter. Even when its hidden in a closet or cabinets, I still know it's there and have this overwhelming urge to get rid of it. The only problem is my husband and kids are forever bringing more stuff in. Stuff, stuff and more stuff. I hate stuff lol.

I feel that feeling too of just....knowing it's there whether I can see it or not. My husband is, fortunately, not too bad at bringing things home but once he does bring something home, he wants to keep it far past it's useful life/forever.

I'm sure it is a great feeling! I'm very close to our space feeling recovered from last year and can't wait! I wish I had someone to help me lol, but while he doesn't mind, hubby has no interest in decluttering or redecorating unless I get rid of anything of his or decided to deck out our place in frilly pink or something.

Nice going Kiwibird :)
Glad you are happy with the endresult (for now).

I got distracted (again) so no serious progress here (the wall has been fixed though, that feels realy good). Some other people needed things done worse than I do, always a balancing-act.
LOL : I just realised that the lion's share of the stuff entering this house the last few years is all parrotrelated ...

April, I don’t think you even know the meaning of clutter :D. I need to do that too. What drudgery... I hate seeing clutter, but I hate doing it more... but the end result is so worth it! It should all be done by 2020 :).

Glad your wall was fixed at least. Having that done can be inspiration to keep going- how good you feel having that done, you'll keep getting that good feeling the more you do with working on the rest:)

And I totally understand about bird related clutter:green:. Even with one, there was so much junk belonging to him! I was pretty ruthless about what was and wasn't kept. Happily though, I rediscovered a swing he used to like a lot and will be able to hang it in my office permanently:) There's a lot of crap but you do run across the real 'treasures' and see how to use them in new ways once all the undesired miscellaneous is out of the way. I'm sure if you just do little bits consistently, sometimes in free time or other times planned/scheduled in that you'll get through everything you need to!

I may not have had as much as some people but there was definitely clutter lol. 3 carloads and a bunch of trips to the dumpster is quite a bit of clutter for a home that's under 1000 sq ft. Most of it was concentrated to the office closet and attic and a few unwanted large items out in a small outdoor storage space we have on our patio.

I feel for those who have more typical sized homes to go through though. Especially if it's not been done in years or possibly ever. If it helps motivate you any, it sucks to start but once you start really getting rid of stuff (especially when taking It to the trash or thrift shop) it makes you feel really good. It's kind of an addictive feeling and gives you the will to keep going because your home feels larger and lighter:) It also makes you kind of frustrated that you ever let it get to the point you had to do all this work too:33:
