When is a certified letter a good thing?

Well, all that happens if you don't pick it up is the attorney makes a due diligence motion to serve by publication... which runs up attorneys fees AGAINST YOU (like add a quick $3,000. to the damages... ) because you decided to try an evade service.

Judges tend to frown on game playing...

And it's better to know, and to deal with it.

It may be a cease and desist letter on a Slander case...

Attorneys don't do Slander cases on contingency. Someone would have to pay hourly for that. So unless his business has fallen to zero...

Oh, yeah, I got one from the cable company not too long ago... seems SOMEONE (god knows who!) was using my cable account to download movies illegally... and if it didn't stop they would take legal action against me. (SARAH, WE NEED TO TALK...)

I forget you are in Houston. I went to the Attorney General website and found the suit against Joe Myers. Try the attorney general site too.

But get the letter soon. [emoji4]

It could be good news like you have inherited millions or you won the lottery. well that's what I hope for.

They don't tell you when you win. You have to figure that out for yourself within six months... or you can't collect!

Your long lost Uncle Bob always regretted never getting the chance to know you... so he left the bulk of his estate to you to try and make up for it.

Hmmm.... not exactly highly plausible.

For those who live in Harris County Texas you can look up if you're being sued or arrested here: Harris County JP Public Access -- Welcome and here: Web Inquiry

It could be a cease and desist on a slander because of that negative review, but it in no way was slander. I only stated the facts and that I felt they had not done a very thorough inspection on a used car I bought. However, even if it wasn't slander it doesn't stop them from dragging me through the legal process. I'm the little fish with no resources. They are Goliath.

Hey, perhaps it is from ParrotForums.com asking you to become a Super Moderator! :)

Seriously, hope it's nothing serious!

I know! The IRS made a mistake in your taxes and you've got an additional refund!! Woohoo!

Nah, that's just a letter and a check. I've actually gotten one of those too...

Bad news from the IRS comes certified. (I got the certified letter THE DAY AFTER they froze my bank account after disallowing my alimony deduction, well, at least now I know why everything was declined yesterday...)

Good news, just shows up out of the blue.

Karen, I am dying of anticipation now!
I once received a notice for a certified letter, and was freaked out as well. Luckily the person I spoke with at the post office was much nicer than whoever you spoke to, and I was able to figure out where it came from...turned out to be a refund from months before where I had overpaid for shipping on an item.
I hope yours is good news as well:)

Wow, the suspense must be killing you. Hoping it isn't anything serious!

You know I tend to be the "Glass half empty" girl and assume the worst until proven wrong. However, I've gotten a lot of good news lately, so here's to hoping I'm on a roll. I'm really ready for my life to get back to "boring" ;-)

I am sending you good vibes that it is something great! You deserve good things to continue:)

Update: The certified letter was from an attorney saying his client (mechanic) didn't think my Google review was fair and could I please change it. So Mark was the closet.

I knew he couldn't accuse me of slander because I only stated the facts in my review.

The kicker though? When I got home the exact same letter was in my mailbox, so he had sent one registered and one regular mail.

What happened to freedom of speech?

Yeah - the attorney's did that to me too. Sent six of the same packages to my house.

Sorry you have to go through this.

And I'm sorry for you too. I've been in foreclosure before and it sucks!

educated guess.

And that is exactly because people refuse the certified and it comes back, but look at this, the regular mail was delivered, and she got it... And we can prove it!

We do that all the time.

I am literally sitting here with my jaw on the floor, Karen! (..and a wee bit worried, too) You mean, you left a rectified review, and this <insert expletive of your choice> actually contacted his attorney over it?

I just left a review for a restaurant we used to LOVE that has gone down the drain SO severely it made both me and husband sick last weekend....and I left a Google review....GULP GULP GULP
