What is your dream bird to be owned by and why?

I think it would be amazing to hand raise a harpy eagle...they are so magnificent! Then I would want to start an educational program to promote awareness and conversation.

It would also be awesome to start a breeding program for the big blues that are struggling in the wild as well. I'd want to make a giant bidome with Brazilian palms and plants to replicate almost exactly how the wild would be, only safer without poachers or loggers...I would also want to start an educational outreach for this project as well.

But ultimately, my favorite bird, the one I will be owned by for the rest of my life (universe willing) is the hyacinth. To me, they are a perfect match, in all respects. I could just live in that vibrant cobalt! I'm so excited that I get to make this long term dream of mine come true, and I'm already gathering toys and making toys (not many yet..but its a growing collection). And I have what I call my bird book...a sketchbook filled with resources, information, recipes, toy ideas, pictures.... so i guess the best answer for me on this question: the hy is my number one dream fid :D

Can't believe I didn't think of the st Vincent's amazon... (Bronze) a truly stunning bird. Shame their so rare.

Thanks guys for your input @shyness Blue throats are such pretty birds. @haleybird...I love all eagles, one of my favorite birds of prey is the Eurasian Eagle Owl. Or egyptian vulture. When i was at the zoo working, i got to interact with a screech owl... such cool birds :D

I've always wanted a Macaw and now I am lucky to own one! But I still want a Blue & Gold for their fun, clowning around nature. They can be goof balls! That's what I love about Macaws!

I try to keep my dreams within means of actually attaining them, but I would love to a Hyacinth. But the only way I could see that happening is a rehome!

I've been really looking into smaller birds lately and really like Alexandrines, the Yellow Collard Mini Macaw & Lovebirds. I would love to get my daughter her own small parrot as a pet one day so her dream of owning her own bird will come true. She is convinced that when she is an adult she will own a Hyacinth! I hope she can and she keeps that dream alive!

@wings-birds of prey are so awesome. I love watching them :D

@blanaej- I've wanted a hy since I was a little girl...of course years later, I'm super super close to attaining my dream and it is such an amazing feeling...I've found my breeder, my names on the list...I'm almost done with university...I can hardly wait for the post that says: ITS HAPPENING!! and its by me in regards to my baby fid. Oh the pictures I will post! Of the egg, of the hatching everything...so basically I decided I'm going to move closer to the breeder so I can visit everyday. :D

so remind your daughter that anything is possible, as long as she keeps her dreams alive ;) sounds cliche, but its true....with hard work and dedication and planning, you can accomplish so much! :)

Great advice haleybird. I will tell my daughter. Not cliche at all in my book. :D

I can't wait to see you get your Hy!!!!!

And I'm jealous for it! We get flocks of cockatoos at 5am chewing all the trees and anything "delicious" looking on the house, and they say a fond farewell any time one of their own flies off, so I don't want a cockatoo :p
BUT macaws are getting cheaper, one day I will have one! That's my realistic dream bird :p

That would have to be the Gold & diamond eagle statue commissioned by Canadian philanthropist Ron Stone that Sotheby’s estimated its value at over $6M last year.....
