I need to make sure Clifford has a good diet, I'm sure the pet store gave him seeds, pellets and the occasional apple or veggie, but after reading all the info on this forum i see he needs lots more fruits veggies and pastas. I can remember not to give him iceburg lettuce, parsley, and there was one other that I cant remember now....but what else should you NEVER give your birdie?
thanks guys :-D

Never give avacados, chocolate, pits from fruit, alcohol.

avacados....that was it. I would have never given him chocolate, or alcohol. hes crazy enough as it is. could you imagine drunk conure??? no thanks. thanks for replying rio mom ;-D

Onions are bad too.

Oh, and I've read that asparagus, while not necessarily toxic, can cause digestive upset.

I don't give dairy either as birds can't process lactose not being animals that nurse when young.

I also don't give hamburger because even trace amounts of E. Coli could be in it no matter how well it's cooked. And I avoid other marbled meats like beef and pork.

I was thinking to stick to things like brown rice, mixed veggies, sweet potatoes and some fruits.....I never knew ppl let their birds eat off their dinner plates until today!!! :-O

I usually give Widget a little bit of whatever we're eating, with the exception of the bad stuff of course. It's halfway a defense mechanism -- he will land right in the middle of our plates if we aren't careful, clumsy little baby. Turns out he's a pretty big fan of chicken. We have to be really careful with what we give him because I don't want him to start gorging on junk food and stop eating his pellets and fruits and stuff. I think I also read that mushrooms are really bad for them, too...

When I was a kid Id visit my dad.He had a parakeet that drank from his glass of Jack and coke..I cant imagine what ever happened to that bird...

I give my conure a tiny bit of what Im eating too.She has always attacked me when I eat anything chocolate.I dont know if the former owner gave this stuff but she will literally chase me and my hand demanding some..She doesnt do that with broccoli..LOL....Sorry guess this didnt help much.

Sounds like I need to plan for bigger meals, we already give the dogs a little taste of what we eat, wouldn't want to leave Clifford out! hehe. He looooooves popcorn apparently, when I was home eating lunch he ran and did a whooshing dive into the bowl, I had to rescue him from drowning in it.

My Nanday would eat 50 pieces of popcorn if I let her! I hardly ever make it because she wants to gorge on it.
