What do you use to line the bottom of your fids cage?

I was wondering what everyone uses to line the bottom of your fids cage. I am using newspaper but someone told me it can be dangerous because of the ink in the paper. Would love to get ideas from you all about what you use.

I place newspaper in Mishi's cage, under the grates. I change it daily.

I have a couple rolls of unprinted newspaper. If you call some local newspapers that are relatively small and ask them if they sell their "ends" then you might be able to get some too. I am able to cut directly from the roll to the length I need.

All my cages have grates, so I too use ordinary newspaper changed daily, I guess if they can't get to it no harm, for smaller cages without grates you can use crushed walnut, it can be recycled a number of times by just sifting out the solid matter, poop, food ect, however it is fairly expensive, you want to stay away from crushed corn cob if the birds can access it, its not digestable and many birds try and eat it, it can cause serious health problems, some people use pine shavings, but I find it to be a bit messy if used in cage bottoms, probably the most common litter used in pet stores........

News paper is really what many of us use. I would stay away from the corn and other products they sell to put in the bottom cages. They also can contain fungi as do peanut shells.

Newspaper for me...changed twice daily. I've recently been using paper towels, as I found some really cheap...it is cleaner and easier to clean up...but can be a little expensive.

I use newspaper for my main cage, plain paper for the hospital cage. Plain means I can easily check their poos for any discolouration.

I generally use newspaper for conures as it is under grate.I did once find a particularly ugly geometry test...bad grade and all underneath the grate but that is another story.I use pine shavings for my budgies because I do not use a grate since one of my birds is weak and often rests on cage bottom.

bogo1, maybe you could have a raised platform in the cage? I have one for my veggies and fruits/foraging toys.

Sky would have hard time getting to it so I give her and merry a fruit and veggie kaboob daily and hang it right by her.If she moves merry will deliver.

I have always used a grate for she is not a lady, she rips the paper to shreds. Mishka walks on the grates often, especially to play with her balls. She spends long periods walking on the grate, throwing the balls around.
I"m sure if it hurt her, she would not walk on it.

I line the cage with newspaper, under the grate. I don't think I have to worry about them ingesting ink, if I'm careful to flatten it and push it out of reach.

I know you are not in most of the day, what if Rosie walks around, and occasionally steps on her poppies. What if food drops out her bowl, and she attempts to eat if from the bottom of her cage.
