My oldest right now would be Mel, my Blue Headed Pionus, who is 11, but my cockatiel sniper isnt that far behind her at 9.

My oldest foster was a 60 something set in his ways DYH.

The oldest bird I ever met, was "Grandma's bird." Grandma got the bird (also a DYH) when she was 12! Had the bird until she passed away 56 years later. Her daughter inherited the bird, and had it for 19 years, but it's favorite person was the older daughter. So when she moved out, she took it. She had the bird for around 14 years. That bird is pushing 90!!!

Next would be Darwin, the HH, who is 23 now (she is banded).

I have read that red bellied parrots typically live into their mid-late 30s. Maybe your vet just doesnt have to many poi patients. My tiel isnt even a year yet but I am hoping for along happy life for Kalypso

For evertone's information.....The oldest living parrot is Cookie, a Major Mitchell's cockatoo (Cacatua leadbeateri) of Brookfield Zoo, Illinois, USA, who was at least 80 years 107 days old as of 15 September 2014.

My Major Mitchell died at the age of 68 yrs, ...80 yrs is unusual, but not unheard of.

Wow they must have been very well cared for. It surprises me that birds have been around that long. When I was a kid birds were almost universally fed a seed diet that was obviously not healthy. How did they live to these ages On such poor diets?

Our oldest bird is Andi, a blue fronted Amazon. She is 28. Rudi, our blue and gold macaw, is 24. Rudi acts and looks like a young bird.

By the way, there are trends in longevity of species. Generally, all animals get the same number of heart beats. Mice live 2 years and elephants live up to 60 years but they get similar numbers of heart beats.

Two groups of animals have far longer lives than predicted: turtles and birds. A macaw should really be getting old at about 7 given its size and metabolism but lives far longer.
