Hello all,

I have an Rosella, been told she is 2 months old, I want to try and and bond with her, I have been reading Parrot Training by Bonnie Munro Doane, and it suggest having the wings clipped by a vet , this then will make training/bonding a lot safer for the bird. It this the correct road to follow???

Also which is the best way to catch her in cage its quite long with plenty of perches.
Thanks in advance :yellow1:

Also transporting my little bird could I use a cat carrier?

Welcome to the forums Mike.....at only 2 months, (s)he is most likely still getting used to its new surroundings and new flock members, you, any other humans & other animals in the home.....

With parrots, patience is the key word...they are not like kittens or puppies that will be satisfied with some petting ans a dish of food.....in addition to Bonnie Doan's writings, read up on touch training & clicker training, there's a lot of good info on the internet, as well as some video clips on youtube...all free.....the training is something you will need to begin relatively soon, lest you wake up one morning & find an unruly child waiting at the breakfast perch.....

Once you've gone through several training sessions with your feathered friend, I think you'll be surprised that the fears/concerns/questions you've elaborated above, will be gone or headed that way.....

Good luck.....

Thank you I cancelled the appointment and taken advice from yourself and Facebook. I will carry on my socialising with Coco everyday Thanks

Neglected to answer a couple of your other questions.....

While everybody on the forums does not agree with clipping, doing so will allow you a better chance of easy training sessions because your feathered friend won't have the option of getting up & flying off, and too, their feathers come back during the next moult (many parrot species are currently moulting...if your is, I would wait until it has completed its current moult before clipping/having clipped (especially if you don't know how).....

A cat carrier is fine, but if it is one of the canvas types, keep an eye on you bird when in it, as some birds will chew on the fabric & screening...usually out of boredom, but will allow escape if you're not careful.....
