Wearing a jacket and gloves

Cracker, my new Greencheek, has started to bite in the same manner when I first got him. Several of his recent bites have broken the skin and have caused me to bleed. He still will go onto my hand without any hesitation and still seems like he is glad to see me when I come home. I do notice that sometimes when I take him out he does not bite, but at other times he is very nippy. Whether nippy or not he always seems very glad to be out of his cage and be with me. I think he thinks his biting is a fun game, rather than something done meant to hurt me. Anyways, when he starts to play his biting game, I place him on his perch besides my computer, and put on a jacket and gloves. I do not know if this is the best solution or not. I do know that I do not want to be one of those persons that sentences his parrot to a lifetime of solitary confinement because he is being a problem. I also know that I cannot tolerate him biting me in the manner he does, even if it is without evil intentions on his part. My solution is a nonviolent solution to the problem, and also allows me to continue to have a relationship with my parrot that I enjoy when he does not bite, and he seems to enjoy also. I would like to know what you think about what I am doing.

Welcome to my world.........mine is very gluey and wants to be with me.....not afraid to get right on my hand, etc.......and wants pets! When I first got her (him?) she bit hunks out of fingers and arms and I could have given blood. I have tried putting her in her cage for a time out, putting her on the floor and walking away (she flew after me!!), telling her "no bite" in a firm tone and looking at her in an unhappy manor, shaking my hand, using a clicker......all to no avail. I think before I "rescued" her (she was originally at a PetCo), people must have been poking at her and she hates fingers! I started wearing a sweat and golf gloves.....which she accepts......and still does not like my bare hand. She is very sweet and will lick my nose. She talks up a storm and is very endearing. I love her so much and am glad she is here......her biting has gotten a lot better over these past 2 years (can be hard bites, but no blood!!), and I have accepted that this is how she is. Maybe one day I can hold her with my bare hand and not have to be in my "armor!!!!"

Green Cheeks, by nature, are 'nippy' ... I don't know for sure if they tend to calm down as they get older, but mine has.

Mac was very nippy, fingers and earlobes were favorite target (it was always funny when she would say in her gravely voice "no bites" and then chomp on our earlobes; though, it was painful.) but it seems that as she has gotten older (she's almost 3 now) that she's not nearly as nippy ... she still has her moments, but it's not like it used to be.
