Hi everyone,
I've recently adopted a 4 year old Greenwing Macaw from someone who had him chained to a stand with a freeflow of sunflower seeds. After taking him home I realised he was visually impaired—there is a clump of white spots on his right eye, and his left eye is cloudy—so I took him to my local vet for a check up. The vet told me that she cannot make a definite diagnosis for the problems in his eyes but she could confirm that his right eye was completely unresponsive when she examined it by shining a light into it, whilst his left eye was still responding well (although he is slow to react to things) even though it has become very cloudy. She referred me to an avian specialist but it will still be a while before I see this new vet. Both his eyes appear to be showing different symptoms and I'm wondering if anyone else has any information on them. Thanks!
