Safira (B&G Macaw)~~ Gracie (CAG) ~ Lucy (CAG)
I visited a rescue today. I drove an hour through amish country to get there. The had about 20 cockatoos, I avoided those, and almost 10 macaws. Of those was a military Ethal who was adorable, and a "ruby" macaw, Lily.

Ethal had already been adopted out, but she was so sweet. She kept trying to get me to pick her up saying "wanna step up" and holding out her foot.
Lily was a little nervous but let me pick her up and sat with me a bit.

I went there because they had an African Grey. I visited with him\her too and found out he was wild caught.

Anyway they are going to do a home visit and I will go up and se the birds again to see if I like one.

I am leaning towards Lily. The grey might be too much for me.
Enjoy the pictures!

Beautiful birds! I hope one of them finds their way into your home! :)

It is always so hard to see some of these birds. Some were plucked, others terrified. I didn't want a military but the one they had was awesome. She wanted to snuggle with everyone. I'm not surprised she was spoken for. Lily was sweet. We will see!

I am trying to stay away from the boys, they might find my girl too tempting ;)

The vet tells me my amazon was wild caught. I'm guessing he was very young though as he is a very sweet boy.

Yes, having birds of the same sex can be helpful if you don't want to breed, lol! My amazon is in love with the Grey and now I'm not sure if I need to watch them for trying to mate. I don't believe they could actually reproduce, but I don't want them trying either, lol!

That's the one! Nearly hit 3 horse and buggies on my way there (mostly because I kept looking at them.)

I love reading post about people getting a rescue bird. In my opinion there are far too many people getting into breeding more birds and I could say more but some members would not like it and may be offended.

They have lovely birds there. Did you see them at the expo this past weekend?

I do agree with the breeding thing, it's like puppy mills. I do disagree, but I don't think that breeding in itself is wrong. However if people do want animals, I'd rather they considered a rescue first and see if there's a matching animal for them there.

I'd love to have an older cockatoo, experienced and not likely to out live me.
