I just came back from the parrot place to check out my possible new friends.
I really like the Sun COnures.
They also had a hybrid - Sun Conure x Dusky- headed Conure, which was very nice. Does anyone have one of these?

My conclusion for now is the Sun Conure, thanks everyone for the help! What do you think of the hybrid?

I'll be away for a few days, sorry if I don't respond.
:)

I have a dusky, not a hybrid.

Duskies and Sunnies are nearly identical in everything but appearance. So if you like the look of the hybrid everything you learned about sunnies would apply to the hybrid.

I've never seen a dusky x sun, do you think you could get a picture, I'm quite curious to see what he looks like.

Sun x Jenday (Sunday) conures are a common hybrid, but not dusky x sun.

Thanks,
and same with me; first time I saw one. I'll try to get a picture, I'm not sure when I'm going back there.

I don't have much experience with Jendays, but people OFTEN confuse them with Sun Conures, in fact I've heard that a majority of birds in stores are mis-categorized between those two. As far as I know they are also very similar in temperament and personality.

Hold on, I have pictures ... Suns and Jendays are really easy to tell apart if you know what to look for ...

jenday.jpg

This is a Jenday Conure, notice the SOLID green wings, and sold red/orange feathers on the breast (this poor guy's feathers aren't in all that great shape, they shouldn't be so drab, leafy veggies would help him out, Beta Carotene does wonders for birdy colors)

sun.jpg

And here is Hamlet ... notice the primarily YELLOW wings and the yellow and orange across her breast ... from many of the pictures that I have seen Hamlet has A LOT of color across her breast for a sun conure, most that I have see have A LOT MORE yellow ...

Here is the kicker though, when a Sun Conure is imature they have all green wigs (it protects the babies in the conopy cover in the nests) and tehy don't get their adult colors until they are about 2 years old ... so a baby sun can easily be confused with an adult jenday ...

In fact, in my google search for Jenday images, I saw many mis-clasified Jenday/Sun conures listed as the other species ...

Aside from the color they are basically the same bird. Same temprament, same noise level ...

Yeah,
Now I'm not sure...
I knew Jendays have solid green wings, but I wasn't sure if baby Sun COnures did.
Edit to the post above... it IS Sun x Dusky. SOrry for the confusion.
I walked in and asked to see the Sun Conures so he takes a few out for me and I'm looking for a minute saying to myself "I thought this guy was a pro" then I figured the baby Suns had green feathers but I still wasn't 100% sure... since it was just a guess out of common sense.

For the picture... I'm not sure when I'm going back or if you're allowed, so I'll describe it.
It was primarily green - it was young, the guy says that the fave turns orange and red as it gets older and the wings...etc.
Kinda like having a dusky and a sun! For the first 10 years it's a dusky for the second 10 its a sun!... too bad that doesnt happen! I tihnk the colors start changing when it's 2. Some parts stay green and some parts change.
All were $500

Well baby suns do usually have a lot of green. as they get older and molt etc they get more colourful and pretty.

I've never even heard of a Dusky/ Sun Conure hybrid to be quite honest...

I don't get it ... I understand confusing a CAG and a TAG ... and I understand confusing some breeds of 'toos .... and I can even understand confusing some breeds of macaws (greenwing and scarlet specifically) ...

But the Jendays and the Suns looks so completely different to me (maybe 'because I have a problem seeing some colors ... yeah, I am slightly color-blind) that they are a cinch to tell apart ...

But you're forgetting, in contrast to many pet store employees, you're not an idiot.

I can say that, I worked at a pet store for quite some time. We had a few wonderful intelligent people... then there was everyone else...

They were Sun COnures. I got to the store, and at first glimpse thought they were Jendays. Then I thought, baby Sun Conures have green, and the guy said Sun COnures right after. Then jenday x dusky was brought up so I thought maybe it was a jenday. COnfusing!

meghanxx4, that is so cute, the colors are pretty well in perfect shade

Local stores gives me headaches but I like it. I guess almost all breed of parrots are there waiting for their master. :)

by the way I like staying there. hehehe. I love parrots. :)

Hi,
My names Armando Matinez and im 16 years old and i have a Sun dusky conure hybrid. His name is Paco He is such a good bird. He has qualities of both the sun and dusky. Also features of a dusky conure. He is 4 y/o and i never seen one so when i went to pick him up i just had to get him. I have pictures of him but i dont know hold to upload a pic. If you would like to see some pics. My email is [email protected]:orange:

there are 3 types in the sun family. from most colorful to least.

Sun (mostly yellow, some green, some orange)
Jenday (some yellow, orange, green wings)
Gold Capped (mostly green, red/orange head)

the older they get, the more colorful they become. my gold capped was almost all green when i got her. her head has progressively went from a bit of red to orange down to the base of her neck.
