You might be a LITTLE paranoid lol  But hey!!...Rascal and 'Nut are YOUR family/kids!! and it is quite fine for you feeling the way you do...don't beat yourself up over how you are thinking this over my friend.

If it were ME..I'd give it a go...but that's just ME.. But I'd be ever so watchful on how my kids and a "new kid on the block" got along.

You say you work from home,so you'd be right there to intervene IF things turned bad..THEN you'd have to find a new home for Romeo anyway. So, in your situation,I think your best bet would be to just find a new home for him.
I'm sure there is SOMEONE out there that would just love such a handsome little guy!

Do you have a spare room? Maybe put him in there by himself, away from the 'tiels and you could interact with him in "his" room, just the two of you.
but that is also time consuming.

You are in a difficult situation girl. Like I said, don't beat yourself up! You are doing THE BEST you can right now!! No one is going to fault you,or think twice about what you decide to do!!
Jim

Thanks, I'm feeling a bit silly! :( ... because I know so many people have IRNs and tiels but when I was a member on another popular bird forum (which was mostly the forum's tiel section but people had other species as well) had an overwhelming number of people telling me it's a very bad idea and to NOT get a GCC because of bla bla... it would be too much risk and what if bla bla... people were even PMing me to NOT do it because it's not worth the risk they kept saying.

... and it is because of this overwhelming number of people telling me it's a bad idea is why I ended up getting 'Nut (another tiel) rather than a GCC! I REALLY wanted to get a GCC so badly!!... but ended up getting another tiel instead because I chickened out after such an overwhelming number of people told me it's a "bad idea". I LOVE 'Nut and very happy I got him though :)

I was open to at least TRYING to see if it works out... but then the lady at the bird shop who cares for my tiels nails talked me out of it! :( She told me it would be OK if the IRN was kept in another room otherwise she has seen too many birds lose their toes if they land on IRN's cage.

We all know each bird is an individual Juliet..People probably think I have lost my mind, having a big green monster interact with a tiny little 'tiel..But I KNOW my "big green monster" I've had Amy almost half my life!
She is very protective of BB and would NOT harm him ever!
But...are all Amazon's like Amy??? NO!!!! she is unique I guess.
She was friends with Jonesy..wanted to be friend with Smokey, who wanted NO PART of it. She even became friends with Salty...but that is how she is..and MAYBE I had a part in it,because at a very early age I socialized her.

When we go to the pet store she lights up when she see's her buddies the green armed bee bee's! She talks to them "hellooooo" and mumbles 'zon gibberish...she see's the normal grey tiels and calls out "BB...BB"... the poor girl thinks there is a house full of BB's in there lol.

But that is just HER..

Unless you try them together Tropical you will never know if they will or won't get along. Romeo does kinda sound really cute, I'm smitten!

Good point... I know sometimes it works out and sometimesit doesn't. I see cute videos of GCCs and tiels like this one on youtube: [ame="https://youtu.be/sm0lXLbNo0U"]Cockatiel & Green Cheek Conure in love ♥ - YouTube[/ame]

... but from what I kept being told is that this is very rare? I have no idea :(
In a nutshell I'm too scared to have the IRN near my tiels I would die if something happened to them because I brought an IRN in my home. Even if I knew 100% the IRN would not injure my tiels... at this time in my life I'm in no position to care for 3 birds... I have my hands full with my 2 tiels and trying to fix my serious financial problems etc :(

Unless you try them together Tropical you will never know if they will or won't get along. Romeo does kinda sound really cute, I'm smitten!

On monday I plan to get the IRN out of the lady's condo and I will bring him to a spare bedroom in my tiny condo because I have a feeling she might try to hold him hostage so monday while she is at work is my only chance.
but tomorrow I'm speaking to a lady who is friend's with the HOA lady in my neighborhood.

It sounds like this lady would be able to provide him with a happy home... they have a conure (I'm not sure what kind yet)...

The fear AND risk are real!
I pulled this from a very sad accident that 'just' happened!
Stephen was devastated!
We do our best to protect, but stuff happens!
I believe in living life, but I don't believe in running red lights!
I spent my entire night crying in the avian emergency hospital. I watched Jax hatch October 21st at 3:31PM. I've been involved in his handfeeding and raising, and he was finally home. The other birds were in their room playing and Jax and I were in my room cuddling, full of excitement because of his homecoming.
And then the worst thing happened. Kyleigh flew from her room to my room, which she never does, and landed on top of Jax. In fear, she bit his wing as Jax tumbles to the ground. I was able to his heart beat steady and the blood stopped by the time we entered the hospital, but the bleeding started again. He died in my arms.

I know, big birds should be caged when small birds are around. But please understand we were on completely different sides of the house. I don't understand this. I am such an idiot.

Nonetheless, RIP Jax.

SilverSage would be the right person to talk to. She has multiple small species...

OMG that is so sad!!! :(

I know I've posted this many times recently... but I can't spend my life worrying all the time as to where my tiels are in relation to the IRN and having to lock my tiels inside a cage just to have the IRN outside of the cage is simply not an option. Not for me at least. It's not a way I would ever choose to live. I know many people do this but that arrangement is not for me. My tiels are always outside the cage (I work from home all day) and only get caged if I cook in kitchen or I have to leave the house.

I too believe in living life, but I don't believe in running red lights! I have been told by far too many people that the risk is simply not worth it. I'm referring to having tiels around IRN or mixing tiels with other species in general. I don't know but I'm not comfortable with it at all :(

If I were able to wean a GCC around my tiels and have the GCC grw up around tiels I MIGHT be "comfortable" with it... I know that's not a guarantee of anything of course but that's how I might consider it. I have dreamed of owning a GCC one day... several years from now... not anytime soon! I can't handle 3 birds right now.

Juliet...I for one..agree 100% on what you are saying. Do what YOU feel is right,in YOUR heart, and the F on what others may say or think! After all...it is YOUR life, and the lives of Rascal and 'Nut that are most important!

I hope you come to a conclusion on this matter soon, something YOU feel is good and right!

I guess I didn't know there was an issue having tiels around GCC? I have two conures and I've never had any problems letting them all together.

Tomorrow morning I make my move... when she's at work I'm going to remove the bird from her condo (I have spare key to her condo). The IRN is staying inside my cage which I lent her because she did not have a cage (she has never owned a bird before) so I need to get my belongings back from her condo along with all the food I bought for the bird (I even gave her bag of harrison pellets for the IRN which are not cheap!!)... and of course I'm taking the bird with me.

I already have the spare room prepared and a much larger cage for him to stay in... I just REALLY HOPE he doesn't have anything contagious!!!

He has been in quarantine for 3 solid weeks now (can you believe how FAST the time has flown by).

I will post a pic of the room for you guys :)

Juliet, I haven't contributed anything to this thread until now but I can't in good conscience ignore your new plan. We are only hearing your side of the story and that's fine but please take a moment to consider the situation. I have no clue what kind of arrangement you made that led to you having a key to your neighbor's condo but waiting until she's at work and using the key to enter her home in her absence sounds suspiciously like breaking and entering to me. A few days ago you thought the same woman was a savior and you were grateful to her for helping. I suggest being open and up front with her at the very least, tell her you think it's in the bird's best interest to be rehomed, show her the room you have set up. Are you still actively searching for the bird's real family?

Allee DOES have a point....:19:....we ARE hearing just one side....

Yes, the reality is the real owner can EASILY find my posting all over the internet about the missing IRN. I even have pictures of the bird on 911Parrot etc.
Also, we have agreement and she told me I can visit the IRN anytime when she is at work hence why she gave me copy of her key. The whole purpose of getting her key was to visit the IRN in her ABSENCE when she is at work. The bottom line is that there are NO STORIES here. There are no two sides to the story. What have stated thus far are the FACTS.

It is not possible to reach her and she never answers my call and dealing with her is like dealing with a 2 year old child. I have someone who is meeting me and they are getting my belongings back from her condo and the bird is getting removed from her premises. End of story. I have $200 worth of my belongings in her condo which I am removing and rightfully so.

Yes, I was grateful and thought she had finally started taken responsible care of the bird but she has not and I told if if she keeps opening front doors etc while the bird is loose in her living room then she can no longer have the bird in her home as it's not safe for the bird. Trust me, if you saw what I saw you would understand and it's also highly upsetting that I feel as though I'm now needing to defend myself here... not to mention I have helped this woman TREMENDOUSLY and have been VERY kind and polite to her... only to have her spit in my face!

She told me the rules are too harsh... that she has babysat her friend's african grey and knows what she is doing. It's a joke... and when I tell you she OPENS THE FRONT DOOR WHILE BIRD IS LOOSE IN HER LIVING ROOM... AND SHE SAYS SHE WILL CLOSE THE DOOOR QUICKLY IF SHE HEARS THE BIRD FLYING TOWARDS TO THE DOOR... this is the TRUTH!! There are not TWO SIDES TO THE STORY here. I'm rather INSULTED that now I feel as though I am having to defend myself on this forum. It's a little ridiculous.

There are NO TWO SIDES to that "story"... when I tell you all this it is a FACT. Bird is getting removed on monday.

Not to mention if you recall this is the woman who was refusing to cover her huge sliding glass doors. I had to practically pull her teeth to finally have her put things on the window so that IRN does not fly head first into the window AND I thought she had STOPPED opening the front door when the bird is loose in her living room... yet I am now having to DEFEND myself on this forum when I am dealing with a nutcase of a woman!!!!!

For god sake.. this woman resuces COCKROCHES in her condo is she sees a roach she catches it and releases it outside. Hello! That should tell you the mental stability of the woman.

You know, there are wackos out there in this world. It happens!

In retrospect I wish I had simply taken the bird to a shelter... my avian vet I'm using from this point onward is a board member there and this shelter holds meetings at her avian clinic every other sunday. It is a legit shelter.. I spoke to them for over 2 hours on the phone.

I am no longer providing any updates on this IRN because I find it to be highly upsetting that I feel as though I have to defend myself in regards to "two sides to every story".

In a few months I'll be in my forties and I deal with a lot of people in the business world and I have yet to come across a wacko like this woman.

I have put far too much money, work and effort into finding the real owner etc... and the last thing I need to be have aggravation on a forum.

Tropical, remember to breathe! I was not trying to make you feel defensive and if I insulted you I missed it. Is reasonable even in your vocabulary? I understand why you feel responsible for this bird and I sincerely hope you find a solution, without involving higher authorities.

It's often a tough lesson to learn but no two people take care of animals the same way, some methods are questionable, some dangerous and some hard to see, we can advise, we can hope but we can't police the world. My flighted cockatiel has happily shared a room and play stands with two or three fully flighted quaker parrots for close to five years, I know that wouldn't work for you, I get it, matter of opinion.

I was simply saying I think if you enter the woman's condo you should only do so with her permission and knowledge. Why all the drama, if your property is in her condo she should have no problem giving it back to you.

Honestly, I'm just worried that you might get into legal trouble if you enter her condo without her express permission AT THAT TIME. She could call the police on you and who knows what else. The last thing you need is legal trouble. I mean, maybe you should call the police to go with you to retrieve your items and bird. Maybe that's taking it too far? I don't know the legalities, and have no gauge for what she might do. You will need to return her keys as well. I hope it goes okay. Can you try to go over and do it all in person now?
