Video: My neighbor and I just rescued this escaped ringneck from certain death!!!

Sounds like things are OK, settling down after the high drama.

Another bird to your flock can change the dynamic for the better. Hope you can get some rest today?

I wonder what has changed her mood?

noise, a bite or I wonder if someone had a bump on his noggin?

Still a couple weeks in quarantine then over to yours is pretty good

I really drilled it into her... I was relentless LOL

At least she ended up listening and fixing it. Some people, like my mother, think they know EVERYTHING about every topic and are impossible to deal with... but this woman was very nice she truly does wants what is best for the bird and she was very thankful about the info I gave her about teflon.

I hung some signs onto a busy street about FOUND LOST PARROT so it will be interesting to see who calls if anyone.

The lady left her keys under the mat and said I can come see him anytime and I'm actually going to visit little Romero in about an hour and spend at least an hour or two with him :D

BUT there is a potential big problem... I might not be be able to make him get back into the cage when I have to leave! At night when it's sleepytime he's fine going into cage but during day he rather be out playing so it's a huge pain to get him inside of it... I'm too scared to cup my hand around him in order to prevent him from flying off my hand... his beak is so HUGE he could bite my entire finger off LOL

Being around an IRN s is so super new to me and it's a little intimating that big beak LOL ... thus far he never try to bite me and when he does there is barely any pressure.

I might end up stuck at her house for several hours trying to get him back into the cage when I have to leave LOL ... and he cant't be left loose in her condo alone when nobody's at home.

.... so this visit should be interesting. I'll bring my camera and make you guys a video!!!!

I'm heading over to visit the IRN in about 40 min and I'm bringing my camera to make a video :D

I have a new Tony Robbins book called "Money Master The Game" which I need to read and bringing it with me but I have a feeling I'll be busy playing with the IRN and not reading haha

well Tropical time to bust out some delicious treats! and work on some stick training

Also I will tell you a ringneck bite isn't that bad. I faired worse injuries from that murder-tiel and I can assure you the Ringneck I looked after did not like me at all. They have more pressure but tiels I find can tear your skin when they want

I just got back home from spending almost 3 hours with the IRN!! OMG!!! I did NOT mean to spend that long!!! I made some videos and will post them here later today :)

When he first saw me he didn't want to come out of the cage (he still doesn't know me very well and is still uneasy around me and that woman has been spending a lot more time with him so he's a lot more familiar with her).

I was too scared to ask him to step up onto my finger. I don't know why but I am so scared of that ringneck! LOL They have such a "scary" or "mean" look to them and his beak is bigger than my tiel's head!!! Now that I am at home with my tiels again (after frantically ripping my clothes off and immediately taking shower fearing WHAT IF that IRN has something) but tiels look so TINY to me now LOL ... Tiels have such tiny little beaks haha

Looking at tiels now is sooooo weird... the size difference LOL

... but I finally the guts to ask him to step up so he did but you could clearly tell he was uneasy and not sure who... which is the same way I feel about him.

... but after 30 minutes he was stretching and preening and grinding his beak as I held the book I was reading with two hands and he sat on my left hand and suddenly kept creeping up higher and higher one step at a time... he was trying to get closer to my face... so I raised the book much closer to my face.

Then he kept leaning over stretching out his neck REALLY far and started pressing his beak against my lips. I would then kiss his beak and he kept doing this over and over and over again. He obviously liked the reaction and noise I made each time I kissed his beak followed by "yea!!!" LOL... it was the cutest thing! ... and if I did NOT kiss his beak when he stretched out his neck in order to press it against my lips he would press harder and then turn his face completely sideways and starts nibbling on my lips. Are IRN's half snake or something??? He could stretch his neck out pretty far LOL

Is this just something IRNs do?

Actually... I realize now it's not the large beak that has me uneasy... it's the fact I don't know that bird at all and what I can or can't get away with... without losing a finger LOL... and the fact that IRN's are super unfamiliar territory to me. I must say it was a REALLY cool experience to get to be around one. For many years I always wondered and was super curious wishing I could somehow at least get to spend a few days with a conure or IRN etc and see how different they are than tiels.

Cool experience :D

Yeah, half snake is a good way to define those necks lol.
Honestly the IRN's aren't that much bigger than the 'tiels really, it's just all tail :D
Ditto to LordTriggs, I've had worse bites from tiels :D
You need to fake it until you make it a bit here, you've given plenty of examples that he's a handreared human happy bird, but they do respond and react to fear. Mirror his behaviour. If he's confident with you, you can be confident with him :)

The tail AND the BEAK!! LOL Their beak is the size of my tiel's entire head!

The problem is that I see he's backing away from me as I sometimes ask him to step up and I know it's not because he doesn't want to step up... it's because he feels uneasy... but once I spent 30 in with hi he felt much better :)

... bu crap!! Now I can't stop thinking about this IRN!!! LOL ... the way he kept stretching his neck out over and over and over again to press his beak up against my lips was OMG. Too cute for words and he did this literally at least 15+ times in a row! I think his real owner used to kiss him kisses so he knows what to do.

.... but when I play youtube videos for him of other birds he leans his head down and presses his head against the phone... what is he doing this for??? I guess that means he likes it or something LOL

... but when he turned his head sideways and started nibbling on my lips I didn't let him because I didn't want him to get any saliva on him... I know it's bad for them.

What does it mean when I try to gently touch or pet the top of his head and he keeps raising his head up high... I guess that means he does not want to be pet I assume?? My tiels never do this even when they do not want to be pet.

OMG I feel like I am so new to birds with this IRN... like a total newbie LOL

OMG problem!!!!!! People are NOT understanding the signs I put out. My sign says FOUND LOST PARROT and then it lists my phone number underneath. OBVIOUSLY this means I FOUND a lost parrot!! Some people think that I am the LOSER, not the FINDER.

I spent too much money now to re-do the signs!!! I paid to have sign laminate to attach to poles so they don't dissolved in the constant FL rain. Security just called HOA in my neighborhood and then HOA just called me (the number on the sign) and they think that I am the one who lost a bird. Very annoying. They asked me "Are you the loser?" I was like no I am not a loser! LOL I told HOA to call me if they have any info on lost parrot... that is why HOA called me just now they thought I was the loser when security told them about the sign.

This is ridiculous?????? Am I INSANE or is that sign not incredibly clear that I FOUND a lost parrot. In reality I think the person who did lose their beloved bird would at least have enough common sense to understand the sign....

Breathe J, Breathe!

I have no doubt that if I were the loser of a parrot then I would understand your sign very well. Just take the irritating calls with some salt for now?

You have been very diligent and put in so much effort, give yourself a pat on the back, you done good, girl!

I think putting up "found lost parrot" may be confusing people. It should be "found parrot"

The general public are idiots, I've worked retail they're idiots not an opinion I'm surprised they don't forget to breathe. By the time they've read that sign the world "found" is gone from their heads.

you'll probably find he's reading your nerves and it's making him nervous. Tiels do have tiny beaks but they know how to use them, they're also better suited for poking into nuts where as ringnecks use pressure to break nuts. Also in regards to biting your finger off a ringneck probably couldn't. to get clean through a finger you need the same force used to go through a carrot.

Definitely a beloved pet if he's doing kisses like that. That's not exactly an instinctual behavior. Hopefully the owner appears at some point. Have you got a vet appointment booked yet? That could really help in finding his owners

I agree if the person who lost their parrot saw the sign they would immediately know that FOUND LOST PARROT means (I FOUND a LOST parrot!!!). The funny thing is NOBODY is calling! :(
I cannot change the signs now. I already spent lots of money on all the signs. If someone cannot comprehend that sign then I highly question their... well nevermind I won't say it.

Perhaps concentrate on the internet side of lost and found parrots for now? Everybody and his dog is on that! Do you do FB by any chance? Put up on that too?

LOL... I totally agree with you on that one ;)

Wait!!!! I know what I COULD do!!! I will go and completely cover u the word LOST on the signs so the only thing left on the sign will be FOUND PARROT

I can easily do that! The crazy part of all this is to me FOUND LOST PARROT makes a LOT more sense than FOUND PARROT

... but I will change it to accommodate the idiots out there LOL

No vet yet.... right now am still sitting waiting it out for next 3 or 4 days to see what happens....

Post edited as this issue has been resolved regarding the exposed window she fixed the problem completely and the window is now bird safe and she also knows the cage he is being kept in right now is far too small and is only OK for temporary purposes. The IRN is still at her house for quarantine purposes and she is doing an AMAZING job caring for him. She is a very very nice lady! :D

VERY unhappy with what I'm seeing. Visited the IRN today... she opened the front door to let me inside her TINY 500 square foot condo when the IRN was NOT inside the cage!!!! Has this woman NOT learned ANYTHING!!!!! She told me "Don't worry I can hear him flying then I quickly shut door". I was like H*LL NO!!!!!!!!!! I saw the IRN sitting in the living room as she let me in the front door. UNREAL!!!!

I told her Do NOT open the front door EVER AGAIN unless he is in the cage!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are people really this dumb???? Has she completely forgotten that this bird flew out someone's front door and that's why we found him!!!!!!! I'm disgusted.

She also told me he has been playing a lot with pennies, dimes and nickels that she lays on the table for him to play with which is full of zinc!!!!

I told her do NOT open front door EVER AGAIN unless he is inside the cage NO EXCEPTIONS. I also told her do NOT allow him to play with ANYTHING other than BIRD SAFE TOYS. PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is 2 week of quarantine left and I need to get bird out there of quicker the better for the sake of the bird.

To be honest if I did NOT have tiels I would have LOVED to adopt that IRN in a heartbeat... but I am NOT comfortable putting my tiels at risk by bringing an IRN into my house. Plus at this time in my life the LAST thing I need to have is to have to care for THREE BIRDS!!!! I cannot handle that right now and if I have to keep my tiels locked in a cage just to have the IRN loose that is NOT going to work for me... nor my tiels.

My #1 priority is finding an EDUCATED and INTELLIGENT, CAPABLE and EXPERIENCED bird owner who has tons of time to provide for this poor IRN.

Now I am concerned this IRN might have gotten poisoned after she has been aollwing him to play with money!!!!! This is RIDICULOUS. I texted her waiting to see how long exactly he has been getting exposed to zinc!!!!!!

Juliet knowing how dirty money is the IRN is more at risk of an infection that metal poisoning IMO. If you can find a good no pets at the moment type of home then he could go immediately.

Print off some of the warning notice Allee did in the Welcome Forum for your neighbour to read for now.

Trust me... the neighbor already has all that info. It boggles my mind how at first she UNDERSTOOD the STRICT RULE to NEVER under ANY circumstances open the front door unless the bird is SECURED inside the cage!!!!! How the hell does she think the bird got loose in the first place!!!!!! I told her the second people start getting LENIENT with these COMMON SENSE RULES is when disasters happen.

Her living room is so tiny it is not even funny and the IRN was LOOSE in her living room and she has the BALLS to open the front door to let me in. That REALLY upsets me.

There is actually less than 2 weeks of quarantine left... I emailed someone about the bird who contacted me (the HOA lady's friend who MIGHT be a good option)... she hasn't replied yet to my most recent email... but the reality is that I will 100% be taking the bird on a TEMPORARY basis until I am confident he gets rehomed to a responsible happy home. This woman has to fly to europe in about 2 1/2 weeks anyway... so I might as well get the bird gram stain tested ASAP to rule out parasites???
