I went to the second vet and she said she could look at him, but I should just keep my money and go to a specialist she knows in Calabasas. She thinks it might be head trauma from what I told the receptionist who then told her because she was in surgery. So I left went home to call the other place and their emergency fee is $150. Idk what to do at this point. I appreciate knowing head trauma as a possibility, but she didn't actually look at him. My mom is waiting on a friend to call her that knows a vet personally. My mom is also wondering if it's maybe an ear infection...? Like I said we don't have much money to spend and I don't want to waste it on a vet who is way overpriced because of status and location. I will keep updating as much as possible. Anymore advice is greatly appreciated.

If you feed him formula remember to NEVER microwave it!!!! It causes hot spots in the food and has burned many birds crops requiring surgery and some have died from this. Very painful! !!

Formula should never be cooked in the water anyway. The proper way to mix formula is to heat up water first then mix to formula not to cook it!

At this point all we can do is speculate as none of us are avian vets. In order to find out what's actually wrong with him you need to be seen by a good avian vet.

We are finally back from the vet. All I have to say is, who knew that in the middle of nowhere and nothing I would find a Bird God. Rasta's mouth was swabbed and blood was drawn. The swab was normal and the blood results will be in by morning. He's thinking maybe something with his liver, but wants to wait a see the blood results. His lungs were clear and he didn't notice anything abnormal on him. This vet owns 15 birds of his own. I was so happy with the care Rasta received.

A BIG THANK YOU again to "WannaBeAParrot", I am so grateful that you posted that vet's info. Even though I am unsure of whether Rasta will get through this or not I had a huge weight lifted off my shoulders while at the vet because I was finally getting my baby the help he needs. Thank you to everyone else for all the advice.

I will update in the morning with the blood test results. My fingers are crossed tight that we will have an answer. :)

Rastas, am so glad the vet worked out for u. Looked pretty close to u on map, and sounded good. I hope your baby is feeling better today.

So glad to hear your conure is in capable hands. It feels so much better knowing that you have a good doctor to depend on doesn't it?

Hope everything goes well with Rasta. I noticed you were using a bird protector after seeing your post history. Not sure if you are still using it but I would definitely toss that out. It helps to have his cage set on a table instead of the floor as well. It makes them feel better to be elevated. Sorry if you've made changes already, I did not read through all the pages, just skimmed.

Anyway, here's to Rasta and hope he gets through ok. He sounds like a fighter!

Rastas thank you so much for keeping us posted. It is so funny how we can get caught up in what someone else is going through - I thought about you all day and kept checking back to see if you had posted. I am so happy you got to that vet and no matter what happens you know you did everything you could. You're in my thoughts and in many others as well, and we all hope for the best.

It has been around 7 hours since being at the vet and his balance seems to have improved slightly and when I call his name he answers now which he wasn't doing before. I hope this is a good thing.

Yes I tossed that before I even used it. A few people had told me not to use it. He is in a bigger cage now and it has a stand so he is elevated. He is a fighter, earlier today before we got to the vet he was trying to eat, but fell and he jumped up quickly and climbed his bars like it was nothing and continued eating. I knew then that I had to do whatever I could. I just hope he can continue fighting what ever it is.

Thank you for caring so much. I get the same way with everything and everyone. I will update again tomorrow as soon as I find out the results of the blood work.

I hope everything goes well through the night, I would be devastated if I lost one of my FID children. Its always nice to find a vet who doesnt feel it necessary to wring your wallet out before helping you. Please keep us all posted as we wait to hear how your baby is doing. Try to have a good night and remember you didnt do this, and if it is something you burned candles ect., you didnt know. I know for me its hard not to blame yourself but it doesnt help, and you very clearly care dearly for your birdy.

UPDATE: Rasta's blood results are in. His liver enzymes are elevated and red blood count is low, so is his protein in his blood. White blood cells are normal. He is anemic. He wants to put him on medication to stabilize his liver and an antibiotic plus probiotic. At this time he is unsure of the cause. He is going to talk with some avian vets he knows in Florida and Canada to see what they think. Hopefully Rasta can fight this. I will continue to update when I can.

Good luck you and Rasta are in my prayers

I just got up to speed with this thread this morning and i was waiting to hear as well. I will keep you in my thoughts. At least you are moving in the right direction and maybe he will get well!!

So the vet has put Rasta on Baytril and Milk thistle to stabalize his liver and some bene bac to keep some good bacteria in him while on antibiotics. He hasn't even started this yet, but seems to be improving so fingers crossed.

He is also now eating mainly pellets. I give him a bowl of pellets with 1 nutriberry ball thing. I guess he knows he needs to get healthy. I am now going to try the fresh food thing again until we find something he will try.

I will continue to update you all through his progress. The vet wants me to call at least once a day to update them. I really couldn't have found a more caring vet.

Please give all your birdies an extra cuddle for me and any other babies you all have. We must enjoy them while we can. Thank you again for all the help and positive thoughts.

Keep up the good work! Looking forward to hearing more good news tomorrow!

So glad Rasta is i proving. When sing fresh produce, i recommend peeling what u can, even if organic. Of course, u prob already know... No avocado or chocolate or onion . Also purest water u can im case there is somethin
G that bothers him in local water.

I am so glad that things are looking up for both of you - I can tell that you are less stressed out about it by how you are writing. Getting a bird to eat fresh food can be very trying so just keep patient and keep it up, eventually he'll find something he likes. It's so good of you to keep us posted.

Ah, what a relief that he seems to be improving!! It is such a blessing to find a vet you fell comfortable with because they are (a) clearly competent and (b) not just in it for the money.
Best wishes for continued improvement.

Is bottled water okay...? I fill up his water with that never sink water. We have sparkletts delivered to us. I also have a brita if you think that is better.
