Hi,
As you all might remember, i bought a red rumped parakeet. Very sadly, phoenix, my red rumped male parakeet, died last night, we are not sure how, but the pet shop we bought him from said he was fine. We are not sure how he died, he was fully tame & loved us & we loved him, he left us last night. This morning, I went to my friends house & told him. He told me that his brother is selling a baby Indian ringneck, I am buying this male indian ringneck, next thursday. He is only young, around 2-3 months old. I am looking forward to getting him as i am feeling lonely, now that phoenix left us. R.I.P phoenix, we will love you always.

Sorry for your loss, may Phoenix be at rest in Rainbow Bridge.
You have memories that will alway be treasured, never to forgotten.
How long were you Phoenix's guardian for, and how old was he?
Please approach the pet shop, and inform them of your loss. There could be sick birds in the pet shop.
Before getting another bird, make sure you clean and sterilize the cage thoroughly.
Good luck with the new bird.

I was just thinking the same thing Antionette. Bird could have a virus that hangs around. You should clean with a very good germacide that is parrot safe like Aviclean or GSE.

A very heart felt condolence to you Kiwi for the loss of Phoenix, please consider Antoinettes very good advice on the thorough cleaning and sterilization of all that Phoenix came in contact with, heres hoping that you will have many happy years with your new feathered friend, take care and God bless.......

So Sorry to hear of your loss. I agree with the above posts to thoroughly clean the cage and all the interals, replacing the perches would be good especially since you don't know why your poor little keet died. If you can, putting the cage out in the sun after cleaning would be good.

Looking forward to seeing photos and hearing stories of your new baby soon

hi everyone, thanks for your replies, phoenix was only 11 weeks old, i had him for 3 weeks, i will inform the pet shop tomorow and i have bought a new cage for the new irn and i have disposed of the old cage thanks

Wish you all the best with your new bird. It is good that you are getting a new one to care for. Please send photos when you can.

I'm so sorry! Regardless of how long they're part of your family, you still love them and miss them when they're gone.

That happened to us with our first Alexandrine. We had Dot for 5 days, and our friends had her clutch-mate for less then a month. Both died the same way.

I am so sorry to hear about your lose of such a young Parrot!

My one thought is! Do you have any pooh? You maybe able to get a gram stain done.
I am not sure how long the sample would be good for that is all.
But it may give you a clue to what was wrong.

Hi,
I have disposed of the cage & everything, so i do not have anything left such as poo etc. I will be going to get the IRN on thursday, hopefully he will be there :), i miss phoenix alot & i hope hes in the best place for a parakeet, i will post pics asap!
thanks everyone

Sorry for your loss and good luck with your new bird but please make sure you re-evaluate everything about the environment also because the bird's death could have been caused by something else besides a pathogen -like fumes or some type of gas or something like that.
