Well after a week or two settling in, Valentino has definitely found his voice! Here he is singing up a storm yesterday afternoon, the video quality isn’t the best as I didn’t want to get too close and stop him from singing. He has a lovely tone to his voice and will sit and trill away happily like this for simply ages at a time. Val is not hand tame and quite frankly I don’t think he ever will be but it’s lovely to have that cheerful sound in the house again since we’ve not had a budgie in over ten years or so. Fang can be seen looking on and Her Royal Highness offers some constructive criticism every so often :)

Maybe I should have called him “Verdi” or “Carreras” or something operatic like that!

Oh my, I’ve always wanted a budgie because I love their songs....now you’ve gone and got me thinking about it again :)

Oh I love budgie songs!! Bumble also seemed to enjoy it LOL

Well Bumble might like to be Val’s cyber-girlfriend, certainly Lilly plays a bit too rough for him! He sings on regardless but I was kinda hoping they’d be little buddies like Sludge and Pete once were, they were SO cute together!

And Jen, that cheerful song of Val’s was what greeted me when I got home from work yesterday, such a lovely welcome home:)

He sounds like a Waterslager Canary, water notes and all. That is just beautiful!

Nothing quite like a chirping, gurgling, warbling little budgie.Sounds quite happy to me :)

Yes you’re right that is what he sounds like. He does warble away with some very throaty tones at times, not for the camera though of course!

Why can I never hear sound from these videos???? Wonder what setting I need to fix?
So glad he is happy and part of the flock!

It's 10 pm here, and I made the mistake of playing Valentino's video. Both my budgies, who were already tucked away for bedtime, suddenly perked up, and now they're both singing along! Even Murphy the OWA gave a little squawk, but more of a grumpy squawk because he didn't want to be disturbed Lol

Thanx Leafygreenbeaks, everyone in my house drops what they’re doing and comes a-running to hear Val singing too!

Poor old Val has just come back from a visit to the v-e-t, and what a brave little man he was too!

Seems he has developed a taste for Lilly Pilly’s dry nectar powder (!) and helps himself to it whenever he gets the chance. This behaviour however is not to HRH’s liking and she rockets over there to chase him off. Occasionally Val stands his ground and a fight ensues, and our Val has sustained a superficial eye injury. So we marched him down to the doctor who got a very impressive barrage of equipment out to examine the eye and the good news is he just had a bit of irritation from some errant “eyelashes” but the doc says no serious harm done and he should be ok in a few days. He’s been given a course of Metacam for any inflammation but doc was pretty happy with him, considering the onslaught he had suffered!

Meanwhile he’s been singing at the top of his lungs the whole time and pushing Fang around mercilessly - there’s a very definite hierarchy between the three of them. Val just needs to learn to beat a hasty retreat in future when he sees HRH on the rampage!
