Update on Whisper

Ohhh, I will have to watch that. I must admit that I didn't have time for them to dry off before I left for work. I just did the spray down and observed long enough to see they weren't preening.

My step son said there is something that you can put in their food or water (don't remember what he said) that will help them preen. Is that true? I plan on asking the doctor about it this afternoon.

Not necessary.

Thanks for letting me know that.

Buddy doesn't preen when wet, he's fluffed out and when the heater is on he's stand in front of it. He will preen daily but I've only seen him preen when he's dry.

Well last night Whisper was in a Zon mood. He wouldn't stay on the hand perch and started climbing up my arm to my shoulder. (I didn't know he was in a mood.) I tried to get him off but when I did that he bit me and hard. Didn't draw blood but it is bruised. This set off about a 90 second round of him flying to the floor then chasing me...kid you not...me trying to get him on the perch and then him flying to the couch where I covered him with his cage cover. He settle down enough to step up to the perch and I put him in his cage. Whew!!!

This morning...I went to his cage...he came to the front like he always does. Stuck his foot through the bars and put his beak through and gave me the tongue. I put my finger in and he bit me. Drew blood and bit right through the finger nail. This guy moves fast. Later while I was putting in fresh water and new food...he came running from across the cage in attack mode. Hello...I'm trying to feed you. Silly bird.

O man. Whisper and Kiwi must be conspiring! Kiwi ripped my hand open yesterday too:( You tell your bird to stop corrupting mine:p! (J/K)

In all seriousness though, I bet Whisper knows theres a new bird and is having some jealousy issues. I think Birdman may be the best to answer on how to deal with that!

You know...I was wondering that. I've done my best...I know Whisper hasn't seen him and I try to only spend about 15 minutes in the am and pm with the new guy and give Whisper more time in the evenings. But who are you going to spend time with...the one who draws blood or the one who steps up and lets you pet him? :D

Last night I was so ready to towel mummy Whisper but I didn't have a towel handy and I didn't think the light weight cotton would give me enough protection.

Next week when I take Whisper to the vet for his exam I'm going to ask him to show me how to wrap Whisper up so I don't get bit.

Oh wow, how are your fingers doing? I'm sorry to hear he's being a terror but I agree, I wonder if it's the new edition? Buddy shows some jealousy but not like that!

My finger hurts. Right now I wish I still had my acrylic nails. :p It could be the new addition but I may not have being paying attention like I should have been. Also, are we in the hormonal time again for Zon's?

Oh boy...that's tough! I'm sorry that Whisper is acting this way and I tend to agree that it is most likely jealousy...unless it is somehow hormonal?? You and Kiwibird are scaring me..lol..I better watch out with Sassy:11: She has been very well behaved lately. I was having a time with her right after I brought Peanut home and then again when she could see Peanut...but it was more curiosity than jealousy and not aggressive at all. I hope Whisper settles down for you...maybe he just has to get used to there being another fid in your home.

I hope he settles down quickly. He of course won't see the new fid for several weeks. That is so hard. Keeping them separate. I understand why but jeez it makes it hard to be in two places at once. I was hoping that Whisper would see how sweet Speckles is and get nicer and at least step up without tearing apart what he is stepping up onto. :D Maybe that's where Whisper was running to last night I was just in the way. I'm getting his wings clipped next week so it is one less thing I have to worry about for a while.

Yes..maybe it is where he was.running to. Sassy did all she could to get to the "other" bird when Peanut first came home. It will all work out. It is still new for Whisper. He will come back around. Hang in there!

I haven't been on this forum for a while, so I didn't see this thread until now, but I love how much Whisper has been getting spoiled and how much progress he's been making! :)

So Whisper finally tamed me enough to step up on the dowel without biting it to death. He's done it now about five times. He really loves that piece of walnut I'm holding in the other hand. :D Can't eat the walnut while biting the dowel.

We played tug of war yesterday and this morning with a straw. He really likes to play. We also did the loofah game. He bites I pull. If I remember correctly I got a touch to the head this morning.

So the training continues. He almost forgot to bite the dowel the other day when stepping up and I didn't have the walnut to coax him. We are getting there. When I put him back in the cage he does not bite the perch I put him on.

I am getting a few more scratches to the head inside the cage but I have to have his beak otherwise entertained...and lately it's been playing tug of war with a straw.

I don't want to make too big of a deal because I fully expect to have a good bite any day now.

Fewer bites is a great reward tough. You are doing great with Whisper.

Sounds like your making some serious progress with Whisper! Keep up the good work and keep having the patience it takes for him to go at his own pace, and soon enough you'll have a great companion:)

I do love the bird. He is also playing with more of the toys on his ladders.
Doesn't watch tv though. He turns his back to the tv. Silly bird.
