Dear All

my CAG Momo is doing Watery Poop(green in color), and if i am not wrong they are around 10 -12 times today. i am bit worried

she is on the transition of food from sun flower mix to harrisons pellets. i have observe the behavior of momo, she loves to eat fruit or vegetable or corn on the cob when she have at least 1 table spoon of sunflower and safflower mix. but still a no to pellets which is making me think for alternate solutions.

she is having 1/3 of apple almost every day

she is having any green vegetable of the day from safe list.

...

is this watery poop is a result of fruit and vegetable intake or too much water she is having or anything to worry about. and i will appreciate any idea or personal experience for transition process

I know that when my Nappy ate lots of corn her poop was watery. I could not get her to touch pellets but she loved nutri berries which have pallets and vitamins in them. Maybe you could try those....:) Good luck

Sometimes soaking pellets can help.

I've even heard of people making "Rissoles" with the pellets by rolling them in the original food of choice (e.g. for Budgies; budgie seed; egg and biscuit formula, the weaning formula, etc)

I've not tried it myself, so someone else will have to comment on the effectiveness. I've heard that the rolling of the seed for budgies is effective though, but unsure with a grey.

Keep offering the pellets, it will take a few days more than likely. Maybe try offering the pellets first, leaving them in the cage for 15-20 minutes, then adding a teaspoon size of veggie / etc into the same dish if momo still doesnt touch them. I just kept a small amount of pellets in there nearly all the time and decreased the fruits/veggies amount a little bit and Kawie started to eat the pellets when he learned he wasn't getting what I was having for dinner. My vet recommended 70% of his diet to be pellets.

On a side note I gave him a serrano pepper lastnight, he ate a good amount of it too. Then I forgot how hot they are to humans and I gave him a kiss... LOL. My eyes started watering like crazy.

As others have already said, continue offering the pellets. Each time you feed, reduce the other items little by little until Momo eats the pellets on a regular basis. It will just take time. On another note, My GCC's would not touch Harrisons but they love Roudybush.

As for the green watery poop. It seems that it is certainly a result of the fruit and veggies!

My Alexandrine loves this one... I put heaps of stuff in it, and just leave it on the bottom of the cage... It's easier for him to get the stuff out, when he can roll it around...

today i felt some change in momo behavior. initially she was resisting harrisons pellet (fine) now she has started eating a little as we are making her eat.

my question is this that she is having a very little amount of pellet from couple of days, she likes apple and couple of vegetables, she dont prefer to eat plum, apricot, pears or anything like that.

what should be my next step for making her eat more of the pellets over sunflower.

currently she has couple of containers containing food. in one container i have 5-10 sunflower seeds and a table spoon of safflower as she dont like eating safflower over sunflower so i am making her hate seed mix and go for pellet. pellets are served in higher container.

she is having lot of water intake and i think that is one reason her poop is watery.

or something to worry... she is active and even whistle in many ways for my wife to come and serve her more seeds.

one more thing she is feather plucker.

Stick with it, the pellets will soon become her main source. I am very happy to hear that she is eating them somewhat. I would continue to decrease the amount of seed mix and offer more pellets each day, little by little. As far as the feather plucking... just checking, has momo had a vet visit? Some of the reasons for plucking can be a health issue. Other reasons can be stress, boredom, etc. But I would rule out health problems first if you have not already done so.

boredom,

it can be one thing ... as she is alone for almost whole and that might be one reason. i am looking for good quality avian vet. i have found one but he is like 70 miles from my house. my previous experience with local avian vet was not so helpful rather it was more o like i knew more than him

dear all

today i am bit worried, momo is not putting her one foot on the perch. i think she is hurt, how she got hurt i don't know. now its late night here and avian vet is not available until morning.

any suggestions

She is unwilling to? or she is preferring not to? CAG's and many other parrots will perch that way with one foot up. If you reach in toward her does she put it back down? Our CAG when he is resting will raise his up and leave it up unless someone reaches for him or I come in with a treat he really wants or something.

she is unwilling... when i try to reach her she puts it down... later i have seen that there is a bit change in her walk on perch... on other hand i say her doing stretching, moving up and down, climbing, hanging upside down normally, right now she is eating her food with one foot (that particular foot) in air

My guess is that she is just resting that way since she puts it down when you reach for her and she moves and climbs and hangs normally. One thing you could do is try and catch a glimpse of that foot when she is on the bars and see if you can see any injuries.

Do you have an abrasive perch of any sort in her cage? An example is we have a rough perch in our CAG's cage that is supposed to naturally file his nails / beak down. If you have one of those and its rough all the way around it could be making her foot tender. If you dont have one, or if you have the type thats smooth on top and rough on the sides that should prevent that.

I still suspect this is normal if she seems to play well and otherwise uses her foot when she is not holding still. As I said before our CAG sits like that on a daily basis when he is just relaxing. He will eat that way sometimes too.

there is definitely something wrong with her leg. as i have observed a little more and found out that on of her leg is bit swelled than the other one(the one which she is not putting down on perch).

cant sleep its already and 1:45 am and i waiting for morning...

should i give her anything to minimize the pain or should i wait till what vet says

she doing much better thanks for asking... kas

today i took her to avian vet and he observed that there is some stretching of the leg muscle and advised a minute pain killer once a day and said there is nothing serious she will be fine in couple of days. he said there is no need of any serious medication and give medication will reduce the efficiency of her immune system

current update is that she is playing putting a little weight on her leg and then lift again. there is a change in her walk as she is unable to put whole weight on her leg.

i am double minded with his advice as no medication for swelling

is there anything herbal which i can offer her for reducing swelling
