I made a post a few weeks ago on Keegan my dyh,but it somehow got deleted. Keegan is doing great! He is settling in very well and is getting more and more relaxed with us. I am definitely his favorite,he loves to sit with me and get lots of cuddles. He loves to hunker down in a blanket and get scratches. Being completely honest he has been the scariest bird we have ever owned, multiple attacks on my husband, it got pretty wild for a bit. I think he was used to roaming the house chasing whomever he pleased. But we just dealt with it calmly and he has responded very well to calm behavior. I think he has been abused in the past because I can't make a sudden move without him shutting his eyes and flattening himself out. I felt like he made progress the other day, he hopped into the counter and came over to me and grabbed my arm because he wanted my attention. He normally just comes to me when I sit next to his cage.My husband has been slowly making friends with by spending time with him and sharing the special snacks. Keegan loves sitting in the window watching the outside birds at the feeder. He has got lots of new feathers coming in and finally has started to allow me to get the sheaths off some. I am so embarrassed to admit that he was an impulse buy, something I have never done with a pet, so it's not a habit in case anyone was wondering! But Keegan has turned out to be a great guy, it's been wild and will probably continue to be ,but we love our birds so it's worth it!

We had some forum issues a few weeks ago and lost a few days worth of posts - so it’s likely that’s what happened to your post. I remember seeing your post about Keegan, and am glad to hear that he is slowly settling in. Hope you’ll share some pictures of him! It sounds like he comes with a history of some kind and he’s lucky that he landed with you and your husband who are working to show him that people are good :).

I'm trying to get him interested in eating healthier food. Here he is with kale, which he practically gags at lol. And a cuddly picture. Hang in there with me in trying to figure out how to post a picture!

I'm just boosting this thread for you. We have MANY Amazon enthusiasts (and one snob... you know who you are, SAILBOAT!).
I'm glad you persisted. :)

Hush, Rickeybird!

As Jen mentioned, we lost a few days worth of posts and they are unrecoverable. Thanks for reposting.... Keegan seems to be mellowing and feeling more at home!

I had to add one more thing about my buddy bird! He is super quiet most of the time, but sometimes he likes to let out a bloodcurdling scream I think just to watch everyone jump out of their skin. He also says hello constantly is he is nervous. His main phrase he likes to say is"you're a real baaaad bird, you're real bad" Poor guy he must have heard it a thousand times as much as he says it.

We have a YNA who came from a bad situation, we've had her since last July. She came with some "baggage" language wise. It's getting better over time. She talks about what a good girl she is now, and only talks about "Albert" being a bad bird. (And Albert must have been a hot mess, the stories she tells about him!) She had a terrible "smokers cough" - her owner died of lung disease - when she came to us, and it was constant. Now, she only coughs if one of us is sick. She moaned and yelled "Help! Call 911!" constantly. (Her owner died in the home and had her and 7 other birds in bad shape in small crates in a closet.) She must have been ill for quite some time. Sometimes, she will still tell me "I'm going back to bed. You be quiet."

It's amazing, and sometimes heartbreaking, when they show us glimpses of their previous lives.
