My first bird was a parakeet named Buddy (passed away November 8, 2012). My newest friend is a parakeet named Chipper.
Hi Everyone. Happy New Year. :)

As far as I can tell, Chipper is over his illness and he's doing great. His nose is clear, and hasn't been stuffed up or running. And his droppings look completely normal. I took him to the vet everyday for antibiotics, for 10 days. Everyone at the vet office was really nice and helpful. I paid for the initial visit, but they didn't charge me anything to give him the medicine everyday. They even weighed him every other day, to be sure he wasn't losing weight. His weight stayed the same, 36 grams. He's eating well and drinking water, and he's been climbing around his cage a lot and playing with his toys. Once in a while he sneezes, but it's a dry sneeze. I haven't seen his nose running anymore.

In fact, he's getting a little obnoxious! He plays around in his food bowl and sometimes tries to knock it over! Right now, he's hanging upside down and playing with one of his toys!

That's great to hear that he is doing so well!! :)

Congrats! Thanks for the update, I'm glad Chipper is feeling better to be obnoxious.....lol

Yeah, now that he's feeling better, he's starting to show more of his personality...and he's a little brat!

He's more friendly and a lot more curious now. When I'm holding him and I'm using my laptop computer, he wants to jump down and peck at the keys. And when I'm reading books or magazines about birds, he wants to look at them too. But he's also getting a major birdie attitude! When he doesn't want to do something, he will protest by making this little noise, it kind of sounds like a squirrel or chipmunk or something. And then he bites me! He likes to climb up on my shoulder and my back and sometimes he'll chew on my hair. But then when I want to take him off my back, sometimes he gets stubborn about it. He'll get mad and make that little noise and bites me. Other times, he'll calmly get off my back and step on my hand. It just depends on what mood he's in. If he doesn't want to do something, he lets me know!

And like I said, he's been playing around in his food bowl and making a mess. Sometimes it looks like he's picking up what he wants and purposefully tossing other stuff out. He is definitely NOT the quiet, timid little bird he was when I first got him. He's an obnoxious little feather butt!

I have noticed that he's starting to bite me less hard. He's not latching on and really pinching me hard like he used to. It seems like he's starting to ease up...like maybe he still wants to protest and bite me sometimes, but he doesn't want to hurt me. If he jumps out of my hand and runs across the room, he will wait for me in the corner and he steps right back on my hand when I reach down to pick him up. I think he's doing that on purpose, kind of how Buddy used to like to play chase games with me.

Chipper is obnoxious, but he is friendly, and I love him :)
