Hi everyone,

I am a new owner of a fischers love bird. Just bought Rio on July 4th. She is 9 weeks old and seems to be adapting remarkably well. Just wanted to know if anyone knows of a good place to buy a quality attractive cage. I bought a kings cage from the store but it isn't great quality. I have been searching inline and they all look the same. Please if you know where I can get a nice one let me know

Thanks:rainbow1:

A kings cage not being good quality, what is this madness?

What cage is it she's currently in now?
Most cages come in some type of standard design, you're not likely to find a 'fancy' suitable one for her. Flight cages are best for lovebirds and smaller because of the bar spacing and the actual space!#

Would love to see pictures. If you can give me a better idea what you're looking for, I might be able to help you search! :)

Sorry to butt in, but I just *had* to share this story about lovebirds and suitable cages.

Years ago, a friend of mine was given a pair of peachfaces. She had them in a secondhand cage for a while, but then wanted something a bit more decorative. The stupid girl went out and bought a bamboo cage (yes, that's right: a bamboo cage) with lots of scrolls and curlicues all over it. She put her birds to bed in the new cage and got up the next morning to find matchwood all over the floor and her two birds busily munching their way through her school textbooks. We still LOL over this. Don't ever put a parrot in a fancy cage or you'll rue the day one way or another! :D

Yes, in my opinion the kings cage is junk. I only Paid $50. I'm willing to spend around $500 for a really nice decorative cage that of course the bird can't bite through. The doors on the cage are rickety and it looks like every other cage on the market. I like to have something different that's all.

That's so bizarre for a Kings. They're the best of the best for cages really. I'm guessing this was a really used second hand cage?

You can probably get a custom made cage for around $500 for an appropriate lovie cage.

Honestly though, I'd go for a 'standard' cage. Cages are little houses, they're not supposed to look like the best decor in the livingroom etc. :p

I don't know of any American websites that I can even recommend to you unfortunately.

Cage brands that I can think of are Montana, Rainforest, Kings, Skyline. Maybe search them and find some more info and you might come across one you like?

Skyline do more 'shapey' cages like this

But I'm not sure what you count as a good looking cage :)

The cage is brand new! I wouldn't buy a second hand cage. I'll keep researching I just thought someone would know of something custom. Thanks anyway!

I get most my cages secondhand as long as they are in good condition it means more money to spend on their toys and food :D You can find some really fancy larger cages just make sure you get one thats actually good for your birds cause lots of fancy cages arent really good size, shape, quality, and some have darkened roofs so they dont get as much sun be sure its perfect for your birds first!

Can you take a picture of the cage so we know where you're coming from? Kings cages are quality cages and aren't inexpensive. I wouldn't think that they would sell for $50. Perhaps it was presented as a kings cage but isn't actually.

Kings do (in my opinion) cheap and nasty 'budgie' type cages which are a far cry from their top notch stuff. Like their aluminium cages, or their stainlesss steel. I thought the same as you but apparently they sell 'cheap crap' too.

They are the best of the best in regards to PARROT cages though. I'd love Kings cages, but they're just TOO expensive for me!

Yes it is a kings cage as it is shown on their website. Not all the cages are great. Also I found a website. Designeraviaries.com that make beautiful cages. That is what I have been looking for. A little research and I found it. Surprised no one in this forum had mentioned. Going to order the medium designer!:rainbow1:

The web address doesn't work for me. I'd love to see the cages though! I've never heard of the website.

Birdcagedesign.com
This is their website designer aviaries is the company name.

Those are beautiful cages but its made out of wood. Parrots will chew through it. Since you have a lovebird it'll take a while for it to chew through one though.

The wood is only on the outside where the bird can't see it. Check out the reviews.

Wow they're lovely! Might try and find something similar for our budgies one day. Andrew's reluctant to get another huge cage for Charlie because "I don't want three huge ugly cages in our house!"

I'm not fussed personally, but maybe when I get my own place one day (own not rent) we could look into a company like this.

I like that they appear wooden, but the inside is 'safe'. Wonder how difficult they are to clean.

I love these cages because they look nice in the house and are very safe for the bird. You get the best of both worlds. I knew there had to be something different out there. I didn't want a typical kings cage. Don't mind spending a little extra to get something nice.
