For those who read my past 2 threads, I have not made much progress with Azul at the store :( However!! Another macaw decided to make friends with me, and it was very unexpected! I never really tried to go out of my way to bond with him...so I guess he made the first move :p He permanently lives at the store, until his owner (the manager) can get a house where he and Priella (Hyacinth macaw) can be loud as they please. I have 2 pics from my camera phone of Max (short for Maximillion). He decided to come down to me from his stand while I was trying to scrape his messes (so many of them!) off the bars. He put out his foot wanting to step up...I double checked with the manager first to make sure he wasn't being a punk lol. But he wasn't, he wanted to play with my shirt. Since I didn't want a hole in it, I made him go back on his stand though. :p

Awwww, you've made friends with a greenwing. :)

Lucky, green wings are my favorite birds of all time. Some day I will have one, some day...

This is a prime example of a Macaw choosing you. This is one of the best ways when selecting a Macaw, let them do the picking of their owner. Who knows for sure why certain Macaws are attracted to Humans and what they might pick up from us. When I decided to purchase a Green Wing, there were 2 to choose from, My Neleno and his sister who was 1/2 the size. I was really leaning towards the female due to her small size but wouldn't you know it, it was the huge male Green Wing who picked me. Neleno's sister wanted nothing to do with me and I was going to name her Nelena, When my Male Green Wing picked me, the name went from Nelena to Neleno. Best of luck with your new friend and I would not be suprised to hear that one day you take this Green Wing home with you.lol Thanks for sharing. Joe

Awww , cute story :) Like JJones1719 said , he picked you !

As much as I do like GW Macaws and the fact that he knew to come down to my level (I'm the amazing height of 3' 9" :p) I will not be taking this one home with me ever. The manager owns him technically. She's a "bird whisperer" and I am amazed how she can get any Macaw to respect her:eek: If I ever did get a macaw though, it would most likely be a GW :red1: :)

Doesn't it make you feel special to be chosen? GW was the bird I most wanted, but never had due to their long life span. At the time I was actively looking for one, I couldn't find an older one in a rescue. Now I just don't feel I have the financial situation to take one in. It if it was my only pet it would be ok, but it wouldn't be. I'm glad you made another new friend:) The macaws seem to be the birds that really like you! I usually get that, too, from them which is one of the reasons I guess I like them so much. I wouldn't be surprised if you post on here sometime that you now have one.

That had to be a really great experience :). He is a very attractive bird :)

Roxy, I have not given up on you. Reading this story, I can see that this GW somehow stole your heart. Size has nothing to do with a Macaw loving their new Friend. Even if you only spend time in the store with them, to the macaw, they feel as is your are the chozen one.
If you have the means, I would so advise you to get a GW, they are so loving snd touch your heart like no other animal you will ever meet. Both my boys are very sweet birds and I would not know what to do without them in my life. They keep me on my toes and make me feel young at heart. Best of luck to you. Thanks Joe

Thought those following this thread would like a mini update. When I visited the store today, I made sure to go and talk to Max and see if he still showed signs of liking me. For a while he was sleeping...I don't how he could with 3 Hyacinths :blue:, 2 B&G :blue1:, 4 Cockatoos :white1:, 1 red-spectacled Amazon :green1:, 2 sun conures :orange:, several other parrots that were boarding, and several finches and parakeets (also add on 2 puppies they're trying to sell in the store too :p ) When I was about to leave he had woken up and I chatted with him a little bit. He started trying to regurgitate food for me, which I reply "I'm not hungry, thank you" Max had also ruffled his feathers and showed interest while I was talking to him. So it felt good to know he remembered making friends! :)

Side note-- Priella (the nice Hy :blue:) also enjoyed being with me today and didn't want to get off my arm :D

I love reading your posts :) I wish I was having all these wonderful experiences like you have.
Please keep updating us , I look forward to reading them :)

I do believe you are a macaw person:) Yes, regurgitation is fun isn't it? Merlin tries to shove it in my mouth over and over. At least she usually only brings up the tiniest amount. With Pete it's like a slow moving train of mushy pellets. He dribbled it into the keyboard a couple of days ago before I could pick up a tissue to catch it in.

Regurgitation is the gift that keeps on giving isn't.
Roxy, there has to be something about you that the Macaws find interested in. I beleive they are attracted to your personality. Macaws love when talk in a lower sweet voice and seems like the Max the GW and the Hy respond to you.
Please keep us posted on Max's story, love to see how this plays out. Best of luck Joe

The "gift that keeps on giving" , lolol. That was too funny :)

Found out today why Max can't hang out on his stand anymore:( He won't stay on it and keeps climbing over to Romeo's cage (B&G macaw) Romeo and Max have a bromance (serisouly lol) and if they were allowed to share the cage and bond, the manager and owner would lose their bonds to the birds. So as much as we want to see them happy together, it probably is for the better so they don't lose their bond with their owners.

Thanks for sharing! I just know you will have a macaw someday! And even though Max already has a guardian, I bet he would be very happy to have you as his "birdsitter" whenever the need would arise. :)
