So, if anyone remembers, I agreed about two months ago to adopt the Corn Snake (RB) that was my daughters Kindergarten class pet. We had babysat RB last summer and didn't want to give her back, so as soon as Jenni told me RB was available, I agreed immediately.

Well, yesterday was the agreed upon day since today was the last day of school and it's always crazy. We didn't bother her yesterday, figuring she'll come out when she's ready. That was tonight.

This snake has TRIPLED since we returned her in September!!! We didn't think that would be possible, considering she's 5 (actually, I think she's 6 now), and her growth should have slowed down. No wonder Jenni said the kids couldn't handle her anymore - we had a difficult time. But she's still awesome, just needs to be handled more often.

We have to be super super careful... She's big enough to eat Loki :(

:11:  Eat Loki ?!

That was my reaction when Hubs said that she could!! I was like "NOOoooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!"

Obviously, the snake will only be out under the strictest of supervision anyway, so the likelihood of that happening is very very slim. But still, it's something to think about :52:

OMG !!! Fly for the hills Sugar and Loki !!!
RB looks like she maybe looking for a snack or two

I love corn snakes! They are really beautiful! Make sure the lid of it's habitat is very secure. :)

I know! Well, as long as we keep her well fed, it shouldn't be a problem.

I noticed that the lid shuts well to the point where it's actually difficult to open - because it's warped! She's outgrown her current tank, so after the move, she's going to be upgraded. We'll be able to replace the lid to what she has currently and move Norbert (beardie) into her tank. Although, ideally, we should just get one of these:

HRM3 Package - 1-1-1 Combo

Then all three reptiles have enough space, they're secure and they're all in one place. But... that's out of our price range for quite a while!

im more of a reptile person than bird person so I feel obligated to mention. snakes (and all reptiles) continue to grow their whole lives. lol

Yep, I absolutely love reptiles, I spent my whole live studying them and watching tv shows on them so I too know that reptiles grow forever. That's why when you see a 100 year old croc, it's 20 feet long!

The tank my woma python lives in has locks on the lid, and on the glass doors, so i don't need to worry about her being let out without my strict supervision, as i have the keys lol.
But honestly, having eaten frozen foods all her life, i don't think she would know what to do if she was faced with a bird. Id be just as scared that shed get a bite taken out of her in birdy-defence.

yeah most snakes ive had that have never seen live food will react with fear to live animals. but even snakes have individual personalities.

I honestly did not know this! Thanks for the info! We've had corn snakes in the past, but the longest ours have ever lived was to 2 before she died. We haven't had luck with babies since then, they all seem to be ill (probably because we weren't getting them from a reputable breeder, which was the mistake). But RB is healthy and strong, but still super gentle and sweet.

I tend not to watch the reptile shows.

Yeah, we'll definitely be doing that with RB. LOCK AND KEY!! lol.

I'm sure it'd be the same with RB. She's only been fed frozen her entire life.
