Two Bettas

Yeah I kept looking at all the pretty colors online and I caved finally the other week. Haven’t had fish in years!

Ive been debating on setting up either a 10 gallon or 20 gallon tank now....there’s room on the bookshelf where these two are setup. I had a 55 gallon setup when I was around 11 but definitely don’t want to deal with that big of a tank again!

That first guy is like a Hyacinth Macaw of fishies!
And the second makes me think of skies and stormy clouds and choppy seas!

Thanks! We can try I haven’t named either male yet!

I also haven’t named either of the blue rat girls if we want to do a naming party haha

Beautiful bettas! Never seen a blue one like that! I had a friend that kept rats, but it's hard for me to get behind them as a pet. I know they are smart and can make wonderful pets.... You must like blue! Me too!

Beautiful bettas! Never seen a blue one like that! I had a friend that kept rats, but it's hard for me to get behind them as a pet. I know they are smart and can make wonderful pets.... You must like blue! Me too!

Thanks! Yeah the rats aren’t for everyone but they certainly aren’t the strangest thing hanging around this place haha. I do like blue. The blue & gold macaw and the turquoise green cheek fits the pattern

I have multiple corn snakes, a ring neck, and a large racer that share my property! Haven’t seen a pygmy rattler in about a year! Sad! The racer has been here for at least 8 years!(much longer) The guy sticks his head up when I am trimming the hedges! My daughter says he is a good 5 feet, at last spot!

David I have a racer that does the same thing sticking it's head out of the hedges by about a foot, looks like a telescope!

Back in New Mexico, we had a huge rattlesnake who lived in the cabinet that housed our sprinkler-system control at the far backside of our backyard. We were on the outskirts of town and had Roadrunners, snakes, javelinas, the works. We could NOT get rid of that snake! So my ol' man struck a truce of sorts. He would go bang on the cabinet with a shovel when he needed to adjust something and the old rattler would slink away while my husband did his thing. I can't recall why but my husband named him Gus.

Beautiful fishies. Are they a shorter tailed variety of betta?

What size tanks are they in out of curiosity? I've been wanting to set up a 10g aquarium I bought years ago at this point and never set up, but it seems like life keeps preventing that from happening. I was thinking a single 2 or 3 gallon betta tank may be more realistic. Yours looks about the right size.

Small tanks are a way harder to maintain than large ones-
not much volume to compensate for all the things the fish excrete.


A good thing betta's are quite hardy, most fish do not take kindly to be locked up in their personal toiletbowl.


It is prefered to have a closed-top aquarium for the labyrinthfamily anyway- because that organ is very senstive and the air above the water should not be too cold or dry ...or they get the equivalent of pneumonia.


I really loves these fish, colourfull and lot of personality

I never see wild snakes around here unless it’s a small one that died. The last one I saw was a ring neck that looked like it fried crossing the road this summer.

Yes they are what sellers list as plakats. The generally accepted min Ive seen is 2.5g and these are 3.5 gallon. If you look up marineland portrait it’s a 5 gallon tank that I really liked but they were sold out (and it was on sale too:17 when I was buying stuff. The marineland one is too tall for the really heavily finned ones though but the plakats are fine.

I haven’t noticed more work on this one but I maintain 70+ snake enclosures so that might be why. It has a lid too but honestly they are in the reptile room that stays warm so air is never cold or dry in here. Don’t need jumping though or birds visiting the water. I’ve noticed betta people arguing at each other about living space just like Reptile people. It’s some hilarious conversations to watch go around in that never ending circle. No one ever really convinces anyone of anything unless it’s much lower than accepted practices.
