I posted this in the introduction section... then I found this section specifically for conures...so I hope you don't mind if I post it here too
Hello, I am new to the forum but not completely new to parrots... however I am completely new to this situation and I really need some advice please!!
My two cinnamon green cheeks are lovely... got one to start with, bought him a friend to keep him company... they loved each other... ended up with eggs... then four babies, one older one, two in the middle and a baby...didn't plan any of it so between laying eggs on the ground, getting a nest box, transferring the eggs and her laying more in there...I guess she had a 'staggered' clutch...so each day is a new learning curve!
My daughter has taken the two oldest babies as they are fledged. They seems pretty friendly. The two I have left I have sold. After a lot of research and personal choice, I don't want to clip their wings under any circumstances if I can avoid it... but I am trying to get the last two babies a bit friendlier around us so they are not 'wild' when their new owners collect them.
Well, I have been letting them all out with mum and dad and they fly together which is very sweet... they even sit on us sometimes... probably by accident or because mum and dad do... but I thought they would get to trust us if their mum and dad do... but... when I try to get them back into the cage, that is a different story!!! The little one who is around 6 weeks took ages to catch this morning... she was exhausted and bit me
So I need to figure out a way to get these two chick friendly... can anybody help me? I am patient with the flying... they are supposed to fly I guess but is it possible to train flighted babies?
Lastly, I did not handle them excessively when they were growing up... mum is quite fierce around her babies so getting in the nest box was a challenge, so I feel I am starting from scratch at 6 and 7 weeks. Help!
Thank you...
