bishop just got a lot of new toys from my safe bird store:) but he dont touch them at all. the toys he had he never touch them at all also

its like he dont know how are want too play with them:11:

i even tryed putting seeds in this one for him and still do touch it i have many on the cage with seeds in them and he just walks around them.

this toy i liked alot but i just seen him touch this once.

could he not know what to do with them? the only things he likes that i got him is the food and water bowls i got him he took two bathes in them as soon as i put water in them. and he likes his carrier even tho the bottom is pink:eek:. but he only had them for 2 days tho. could he just not be a toy player(if there us any such thing)

Don't feel bad we got our bird toys too and she took forever to start playing with them it seems. She had one toy that she worked on until she destroyed her favorite part than she started moving on to the others. It make take your bird a little bit to work up the courage to try the other toys out is all. Does your bird have an orbiter toy? My JJ LOVES hers! I got it from mysafebirdstore. But the rest of the stuff like the foot toys and the free stuff she didn't want to mess with (well besides the human candy but I wouldn't give her that).

no i was thinking of getting him an orbiter toy but was not sure how big it was going to be am bad at guessing sizes.

If he never had toys before it takes time for them to start playing with them. It took Pete forever and he is still scared of new ones.

do not think he had toys he dont even play with the bell i put in there for i read they love them. lets give him more time and see i even tried showing him they was safe by playing with them in front of him.

It will just take time. Once he does though he will probably go nutty with them.

Yes, play with the toys, or what works for Pete is if I rub them on my face. Then he thinks it's safe and will usually take it.

I think i got medium it even had a pic of a gcc playing on it. I got the medium boing and it is way too big for her cage so I hang it outside her cage and she loves it! JJ took 3 weeks to start playing with toys. And there are still toys she won't go by(the 2 to pictures you have she hates those.

U playing with the toys and making a big deal over them can help. Make fun sounds, OOOOOOO AHHHHH tell him how fun it is laugh (make a fool of urself) show him it is OK and fun. It might take more then 1 time of u to play with them before he will. Give him time!

Another idea for birds that don't "play" u can have him forage for food in toys. Take his normal food dish out for a few hours and hide things for him. Make it EZ to start and have him watch u hide things, maybe that will help him learn to "play" or shred or chew things. hope this helps!! And good luck!!

Here is a pic of the Orbiter and a boing. Plus another pic of the top half of Maxx's cage. He LOVES toys, and EVERY toy must have a bell.

Skittles didn't play with toys either, the easiest way I found was to ignore him and play with them, as soon as I did that he'd want in.

Another way I get him to like a toy is to wear it in some fashion, he thinks he's being all tricky and taking it from me.

Also, what's the deal with rope toys? I've always been told that they just build up in their intestines and can kill the bird. Does anyone know anything that I don't?

Well, they don't generally eat rope strands, but you do have to watch for them being able to get caught in frayed parts and possibly being strangled. You should inspect them daily for any damage.

I suppose he does seem to chew it more than eat it.. I just knew a lady who's Galah died from eating too much rope, and you should see the canaries at work, They eat it like food!

I guess they can be like anything else. My cat doesn't eat string but some do. Some cats will swallow an entire stuffed mouse toy. I've had dogs eat all kinds of non edible things. I guess I haven't had a bird like that though. I once heard of a horse dying after eating a plastic bag; most horses wouldn't eat that though.

They're like kids, you'll notice which ones will eventually get played with. Try a variety. Shredding, rings, tinkle balls (like cat toy balls), wood, ones with twine, beads, etc. Playing with them it front of them helps, too. If you act like you're grabbing it with your mouth and stuff. Dropping little hints, and then leave them in there to play. It's hard not knowing a bird's history, but he'll warm up to toys. Good luck!

You have to try all types of toys and eventually you will find what they like. Maxx is a toy freak, and enjoys any toy I throw in his cage. I have many foraging toys and he figures them out very quickly. Get a Bird Kabob, I get mine at Petsmart. It is like six pieces of soft balsa wood on a string. It is something they can destroy. I change toys on a regular basis and have drawers full of them. Every time I go anywhere near a Pet Store, Bird Store or just shopping online a toy for Maxx is always added.

Another thing is foot toys. You can see I have a container full of balls, rubber things, etc.. One day he will play with one, other days EVERY toys is scattered amongst the bottom. Variety is want will keep your bird happy and content. Also pictured is his favorite foraging wheel, He can spend hours spinning the wheel and getting out his favorite treats.

I was wondering if he played with the toys in the bucket, I saw those in another picture you posted. Thought that looked like a great idea but JJ never goes to the bottom of her cage, unless she tumbles off some perch or hanging toy she is playing on because she's being a lunatic, lol.

One of Bob's favorite toys (till she destroyed it) was a cork dangeling from a perch. If you do that make sure you boil the cork first.

jewels04, you might find JJ will go to the bottom of the cage if there is something down there she wants. Rowdy's main mission down there is to get the newspaper out of the grate to tear up. She will go down there for other things that attract her like foot toys as well.
